1.0 | 09-14-2015 Review by Donald S. in Virginia Beach, VA Project: Service a Geothermal Heating or Cooling System Buyer Beware Hybrid Air USA promises to earn 5-Star rating but falls way short. Open Loop Geo-Thermal system failed after 25 yrs of service. Replaced with Closed Loop Geo-Thermal system that included replacing both downstairs and upstairs units (Compressors/Air Handlers), drilling six 200 ft wells, 2 Wi-Fi T-stats and replacing entire duct work in crawlspace. Requested/received 3 competitive bids from local companies. Hybrid Air USA was not lowest, but Sales rep made convincing pitch and adjusted their bid to be the lowest. But thats where 5-Star service ended Signed contract stating install would take approximately 3-5 days. Took us 4 weeks (Buyer Beware). Contract also stated that there will be evidence of construction due to wells. What is not stated is an expectation of 6 wells holes and connecting trenches really meant out entire side yard was torn up and looked like a war zone (Buyer Beware). In Hybrid Air USA defense, Sales Rep did walk my wife through well drilling expectations but not to the level of understanding which meant the customer will have a lot of work to do to restore their lawns. Contract signed on June 6, 2015 with an expectation of work starting the following Monday (June 15, 2015). Found out that well drilling sub-contractor lead well driller took vacation, delayed one week. You think that Hybrid Air USA would know availability of their sub-contractors prior to making commitments to their customers. Work started on June 22, 2015 with an expectation of completion by end of the week. Duct work was ripped out and installed, units were set in place and wells completed, but... t-stats ordered were not compatible with installed systems. Again, you would think Hybrid Air USA would have done better research. From my understanding, T-stats were for a 110V system and installed system required 24V T-stats. Install team used the Climate Master T-stats that came with the Climate Master Tranquility 27 systems and we finally had A/C on June 26th, at least for a two and a half days. Called Hybrid Air USA and was told it was because wires connected to T-stat must have a break in them and team would be out next week to fix. Now into week three, install team was not able to come out until July 3, 2015 due to competing priorities with another major geo-thermal install happening during same time. When they arrived they found they could not get the downstairs unit to operate, even with new wiring. Come to find out control board for downstairs unit had failed. For reasons unknown My guess is installing wrong t-stats shorted the board. Proper t-stats and new control board was installed on July 6, 2015, week four. Finally, we had a reliable system. During down time, I crawled under house to inspect duct work. What I found was vapor barrier pulled up, card-board boxes from ducting, left over extra duct connections and holes in my garage wall. I had to generate a punch list for Hybrid Air USA to complete prior to making final payment. June 30, 2015 list included providing me (1) completed Dominion Power reforms for 500, (2) cleaning up crawl space, (3) repairing holes in garage wall, (4) re-grading side yard, and (5) providing me grass seed and fertilizer. All of which was agreed to by Hybrid Air USA. After system was up and running on July 6th, technician asked for final payment. I said no, not until punch list was complete. Finally, on July 10, 2015 we declared job done, less the rebate forms. Earlier told Hybrid Air USA, through their technician, that I going to make the last payment with a credit card as my credit card company gives me a 1.5 percent cash back. To which I was informed that Hybrid Air USA charges 5 percent for using a credit card. Try finding that anywhere on their website (

Mr. Ben Young, the owner recommended a Trane mini-split for our home. We had been told by others this system does not work well as a whole house solution, Mr. Young said they were not correct that our house would be perfect. Well Mr Young was wrong. Besides the fact that this unit sill never be able to properly climate control our home, the installation was not professional, Mr. Young does not follow up to check to see if things were done properly, he has his crew send him text pictures of the installation when complete, he called ours good. I had to call him with the list of things that were not done properly or poorly done. For example the main unit outside was not even secured to the platform, it was able to be pushed around and in a storm that is no good. Since that time we have spent almost a year trying to allow Hybrid Air to find a work around that would allow this system to work and there is not one. After all the attempts there was never a call from Mr. Young to find out if the system was operating better. We would have to call them back, only to be told the ticket was closed that they understood it had been fixed, this happened 3 times. Mr. Young now does not respond to any communication whatsoever. The Trane customer relations person let me know he was not "interested" in meeting with us. Dealing with Mr. Young is like dealing with a child. I am not working with a professional business owner, I am working with a person that is unable or unwilling to address his own mistake and correct it. Mr. Young lacks integrity and sincerity. He is a con man and a does not care 1 second about his customers, I assure you. It is all a front.

I was quite pleased with the owner Ben when he took the time to inspect my entire system in the attic. He was the only company that took the time to look at the duct work for issues. All the other guys peeked into the hatch and measured the opening to see if the air handler would fit through. Outside of that, I wouldn’t recommend these guys to boil water. I should have known when I found tools missing from my work bench after the crew installed my unit. Then comes the 200 some dollars a year for the so called hybrid warranty. I’ve been dealing with this company not showing up to service my scheduled service numerous times. Recently my unit had a catastrophic break down during the time when it went from changing from heat to air. A filter that should have been changed out due to a recall was never done. Although it was supposedly serviced 3 times before this. Also the tech never bothered to remove the top and clean out all the leaves that piled up in the bottom of the unit. Needless to say, the freon line blew out and all the freon escaped. Leaving me without air conditioning for nearly two weeks. When the tech finally showed up to fix it. He said he needed to come back to check on it in a few days, just to make sure. I’ve yet to see him. Now I had to call for my fall maintenance and wham bham, right off the bat, the girl on the other side wants 200 some dollars to keep the warranty active. I’m going to get my last cleaning/maintenance from them, and find another more trustworthy company to take care of this unit. I wouldn’t recommend this company at all. CROOKS!!!!

Greg and the team at Hybrid air were great to work with! I went to visit my sister in Chesapeake a few weeks ago on one of those scorching hot days only to find that her house was pretty uncomfortably warm. She called Hybrid air and they had Matt come out in the morning. After he fought off the wasps that had moved into the outside unit, Matt gave us the grim news that the entire system needed to be replaced. Matt was quickly on the phone and arranged for Greg to come out the same day to talk about replacement options (all of this was on a Saturday!). Not only did Greg come out to rural Chesapeake to help out my sister but he went to Virginia Beach and back to bring us temporary units to use until the system was replaced. The replacement of the HVAC unit was quickly and professionally done and my sister and all of her pets were again living comfortably. This all happened during one of those weeks that my sister was on her own and I felt that she was treated fairly and in a professional manner and informed about her options. I would definitely recommend Hybrid air and appreciate how they took care of business. I did check with my sister to see if it had all been taken care of as described and her comment was "Oh I would definitely recommend Hybrid Air. The install guys showed up on time and were mindful of the animals and cleanup after. I received paperwork in the mail, that all warranties have been applied for...." she thought that they were great to work with.....thank you to all of the team for taking care of my sis. Lindy

These guys are great. We found them on the Service Magic website. Though I called on a Saturday afternoon, they showed up within two hours and gave us an honest estimate within 30 minutes. Though the news was not what I wanted to hear (new coil unit), Chris laid out all the options in case I wanted a more thorough system test or wanted to try to hold off on replacing the coil. We decided to get the big repair done, but decided to call around to make sure we were getting a good price. Sure enough, one of the big local competitors (S&K) told us that our estimate was far below their best price, so we went ahead with the replacement. Our only gripe with Hybrid was that they initially said they we would be there on Monday afternoon, but later called to switch it to Tuesday morning -- not the end of the world, though. In the end, we got a good price with very little hassle. We would highly recommend them.

I went home last night to find I had no heat in my house. I called Hybrid Air as we have a maintenance contract with them. I spoke with Ben (the owner) who asked me to call the emergency number and if I did not hear from a tech within 30 minutes to call him back. When the tech called, my husband had begun to troubleshoot the problem and spoke with the tech and Ben explaining what he had found. We knew if the tech came out we would be spending money for a trip charge and may not find anything that could be fixed without parts. What I was really impressed with is that both the tech and Ben were willing to help my husband with troubleshooting over the phone to see if this was something he could fix himself! As it turned out it was and he was able to get the system up and running and we had heat! Thank you Hybrid Air for taking the time to talk to us after hours and saving us some money!!

After seeking appraisals from 5 different contractors for the replacement of my dual zone heating and a/c. Ben from Hybrid Air by far had the most professional and complete proposal. The installation of my 2 units went very smooth. The installers were professional, informative and very thorough. We were particularly impressed with the manner in which they stopped what they were doing several times during the installation to tell us exactly what they were doing and how far along they were. The installers worked together like team, making sure they did everything right. So far we are very impressed with the quality of our new units. Ben has continued to follow-up with us to ensure we are happy with our new units. So if your are looking for a new HVAC contractor, save yourself sometime and call Ben at Hybrid Air first !

My HVAC and hot water heater needed to be replaced. Both had to be installed in a small utility closet without blocking access to main water valve. The only company who took on the challenge at a very competitive price was Hybrid Air. At my first encounter John did a detailed evaluation, discussed the options, patiently answered my questions. After some phone calls he selected the right size equipment, presented the proposal and scheduled installation. Technicians arrived timely a week later, were very professional and completed the job as promised in 1 day. Entire process went smooth and I had great experience with the team including customer service. They delivered excellent results beyond my expectation.

If I could give them a negative star I would. We had a new Tran Heat/AC unit installed in the fall of 2015. We used the air for the first time in May while we were out of town. We come back to a huge hole in the ceiling and water damage to a hardwood floor. I called Hybrid as soon as it happened in early June and they assured me it would be resolved. Now, that I have wasted time dealing with 2 of their contractors who were going to fix this and their insurance agent (over 2 months in total) there is still no resolution. They were extremely nice when they were taking our $10k but no where to be found now. They are a bunch of frauds, DO NOT EVER purchase anything from this establishment.
