Things you should know: -THEY WORK ON COMMISSION!!!! -Manager (Rick) was dishonest/lied to us on multiple occasions -ALWAYS LATE -Price gouging Side Note: *Roto-Rooter refunded us all of our money from their visits after a long battle. However, they never fixed broken pipe and did not refund our money for third blockage and broken metal piece retrieval that another plumbing company executed properly. *Rick, the Manager at Roto-Rooter Livonia, also asked us not to go onto social media or BBB to share our experience. *There is much more detail to our bad experience with this company. If you want more detail, please feel free to contact me. (I will be happy to provide videos/pictures) JUNE: Had blockage in main sewer. Eric (technician) told us they needed to chisel off sewer cap. Broke metal pipe where cap screws on. BIG piece of metal fell in drain but NEVER TOLD US ABOUT IT NOR RETRIEVED BIG PIECE OF METAL [Fixed blockage, cost several hundred dollars.] BEGINNING OF AUGUST: Another blockage in main sewer drain. Said they could not unclog, will need to jet (over $1000) Jetted for less than 1 minute then were told we needed a new main sewer, were quoted over $12,000. Asked multiple times to jet the entire main sewer since we paid over $1000 for jetting and he said there is no need for it, they will have to do it when we replace main sewer and "will take care of finances then" but refused to put this in writing. Also, Eric still NEVER mentioned the BIG piece of metal that he broke and dropped in our main sewer from his first visit that caused the second blockage** [Fixed blockage, cost over one thousand dollars.] AUGUST: Scheduled multiple other plumbing companies to quote us on a new main sewer, all agreed there is no need for it at this time but all told us about the broken pipe and big piece of metal in our sewer that caused second blockage. [all quotes were free: 3 quotes under $10,000 and 1 quote over 10,000. Also received free video proof that there are no severe cracks and missing parts in main sewer pipes as RotoRooter told us and also video proof of big piece of metal that RotoRooter technician Eric broke and dropped into our main sewer] END OF AUGUST: third blockage because of broken piece of metal. Called different company to fix blockage and retrieve piece of metal. [fixed blockage, cost few hundred dollars] September: NO issues noted since other company came out to fix blockage and damage caused by Roto-Rooter.

I had Roto rooter come out due to a slow drain in our basement. I knew they had the camera on a cable and I wanted to get a look at the pipes from the house to the sewer. They snaked from 3 openings in the basement. 2 of them next to each other, they tell me one was the sewer and the other the storm drain. They went over prices with me in their book.. $250+ each for snaking 2 drains and another $200+ for the scope. As he is presenting the job to me he looks at the prices and says "So its like $600". I should have told them to leave at that point but they were there and I needed it done. $800+ later they were done and showed me the camera. What they did looked clean but they failed to do anything with the problem spot. It worked well for abuot 9 months and has started to slow and back up again. A couple weeks after they did the work I got a call from Roto Rooter asking if the service was good. Having had time to think about it since they were there I told her I was not exactly happy. I feel they misrepresented the pricing to encourage me to get the work done. The woman I spoke with, who was from customer relations, tried to give me the number for customer relations since she was apparently only the "Happy Customer" rep. It took me explaining to her that it was *her* job to talk to me. She said she would have someone contact me, but I received no call. I am pretty sure they work on commission, its in their best interest to sell you as much as they can.

I will never use Roto-Rooter again! We used them for 2 drain issues and paid nearly $500. A few weeks later we had issues with our sewage line backing up so we called them again. The rep came out and snaked the sewer and storm drains (at each a separate cost) and said that there was an issue 60 feet out and job could not be completed, we would need to cam it and jet blast at the cheapest scenario it would be $800. The snaking that was not able to be completed was another $450. After paying that, and already about $900 in plumbing costs we decided to call around as what we were quoted was high and we already have been out a lot. Another plumber with much lower rates came out, had to resnake the lines (BOTH AT ONE COST since they connect!) and found roots but were able to get them all out, did NOT need to cam and it was only $135! I was lied to and cheated by RR and contacted the manager who told me I should have called them to have them check again rather than another company. I did not do that because they quoted me HIGH and I believed what the person said, that the job needed additional work and cost which turned out NOT to be the cost, why would I doubt that? I want a refund. The manager said he would call me back, it has been a week and he has not nor has he returned my messages. Terrible service and after doing research I see how high their prices are to begin with, I will NEVER use RR again and want a refund!!

Had a Roto Rooter technician (Jeff) out to the house that suggested having the main drain "hydro scrubbed" due to roots in the pipes that caused our plumbing to back up. Our initial experience with Roto Rooter (Jeff) was good, so we decided to use again Roto Rooter for the Hydro service. It was the right choice. Gary, our technician, was on time and a total professional. Though he got right to work, he also took the time to explain things and answer my questions, of which there were many. Not only was he able to answer my questions with precision, he also explained things in an easily comprehensible fashion. In addition, Gary also took the time to prepare for a mess, and he cleaned up afterward. Even though we discovered that we have a bigger problem than we initially realized, Gary really took the time to discussed the options with me and I feel strangely okay with the problem, rather than doomed by the expense. Now we have had two experiences with Roto Rooter. We will probably utilize them again, in the very near future, and I highly recommend them. Ferndale, MI.

Had sump pump issues. Tom 412 worked through his lunch hour, digging away so he could beat the expected rain. He was polite, imformative & experienced. He discovered what the problem was & explained we had 2 options to fix the problem; #1 was a temporary fix that was still within the original quote, & the other was more exspensive but the one he recommended. Due to the lack of funding at this time, we decided on the cheaper but temporary fix. Tom understood our decision & completed the job. He stressed that this was just temporary & that it was in our best interest to have the repair done properly when our fiances allowed it. Although all of us would prefer to spend our hard earned money in more enjoyable ways, Tom made the experience as pleasant as possible considering the situation. We will not hesitate to call Roto Rooter in the near future when the needed cash is there for the repairs, & we will request Tom for the job because we know he is knowledgable & trustwothy & he will do the job right.

I had Roto Rooter come out twice. The first time was to remove a clog, when Wayne showed up he was very friendly and knowledgeable about my plumbing issues. He went out of his way to help resolve the issue which he did in a neat and timely manner. He suggested I have a camera put down the system to make sure it was in good shape since we had just purchased the home. I had been concerned about the system and it was a great suggestion. The second visit was with Erik, I cannot say enough about how informative and professional he was. He explained everything to me about my plumbing system, and is a very smart young man. He took his time to make sure the system was in great shape and to make sure there where no cracks or issues in the system. Both experiences with them was as far as I am concerned beyond what I had expected. I would highly recommend anyone with a plumbing issue to contact them you will not be unsatisfied with there service of professionalism. Thank you Wayne and Erik

I recieved an unexpected call, from one of my tentants in Detroit and it was about the basement plumbing was backing up. It was a Sunday evening and I started to panic. I called around to a couple of places in the area and of course they were closed. Then I called Roto-Rooter and spoke with Bill (382) and he came out within an hour and started the job. Eventhough its not the best area in Detroit he still agreed to come out and service our job at such a late time in the day. After about an hour Bill (382) was able to brake thru and solve the problem. Bill (382) was very nice, professional and fast. Bill (382) is such a great member to you all team and I will ALWAYS request Bill (382) for all my rental propertie plumbing needs. Job well done! :)

EXCELLENT service all the way around: Spoke to a customer service representative at 8:30 am on a Sunday morning to schedule an appointment due to water backing up through our basement drains. At 9:30 am the same day they called me back to let me know Derek was on his way. Derek M - #474 arrived at our home before 10:00 am. He was very professional and polite, explained all our options to us along with the costs involved related to our issue, and cleaned up after his work was complete. Nobody likes dealing with plumbing problems. But I have to say, Roto-Rooter made dealing with the issue a lot easier. I would definitely call them again and recommend them to my family and friends.

I needed a camera look at my sewer pipes.... because another plumber feared a broken pipe.... their pricing is bait and switch. On the phone, they said "$39.95" and then they will tell you what it costs before doing anything... but the plumber who came said, oh, i need to snake before using the camera.... it ended up being more than $500. for less than two hours, and all the plumber did was snake and run the camera. fortunately no pipes broken, and the plumber knew what he was doing... but the pricing was exhorbitant and coercive. I gave two stars only because they actually unblocked the drain.... but prepare to be royally ripped off it you call them.

We called Roto-Rooter on Saturday morning at about 10:30am because our water heater busted. The bottom part of it was rusted and it gave out an needed to be replaced. They had someone come out within a couple hours, checked out the issue, and gave us a fair quote, and fixed the whole thing that day. The gentleman who did the work, Mike (#195) was so friendly, he was great to my kids (when I tried to get them out of his way), he took a break to show them his flashlight on his head strap, and laughed at whatever they were saying, and engaged them by answering and asking them questions. Great experience, and I would recommend them to others!

Woke up to water almost over-flowing in my wash-tub and all over the basement. Sewer was backed up. Called Roto-Rooter at about 8:45am, tech Russ arrived at about 11. No extra charge for it being a Sunday. Russ was very polite and professional, even played with my crazy dog without complaint. Got the problem resolved in a short period of time. Price was quoted up front before i signed for the work. Only paid what i was originally told. Excellent work, very happy with the service and the tech personally. Offered good suggestions without pressuring me to buy anything. Will definately make this my go-to company for any plumbing issue.

We had our main sewer backup on Thanksgiving morning. Roto-Rooter responded to our call with plumber Darrell at our house within an hour. Darrell snaked the drain to clear the plugged main line. He investigated the material which caused the plug then asked some questions to us to root-cause why it plugged. He explained how we can avoid this in the future. He also took the time to investigate the reason why our house has two sewer cleanouts and explained it to us (two other plumbers had looked at this previously and could not explain the unconventional situation). I was very happy with the service and will use Roto-Rooter again.
