SAVE YOUR MONEY, TIME & HAIR Great roof product/ HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION WITHIN COMPANY and LOTS OF PROBLEMS during the job To start we contacted a few roof companys, Richard Smith which gave us a great quote he has done my families roofs for years and does a great job! Universal came out and we told them about the extensive work inside and out and roof problems, they suggested a certain roof product which is great, but the installation process was a nightmare. They also said that they could take on some other contracting work like ELECTRIC and maybe drywall and other issues. Then after a week we are told that they are trying to get out of the contracting business and stick more towards roofs, ok we understand, and still agree to go with you all on the roof even though the bid was $7,000 more than our other bids. So the roof work is said to be started in 3 weeks, thats fine we can wait. Then the roof gets pushed back another week, and another week, finally they send a crew for about two to three days, we went and got them breakfast every morning and couldnt have been nicer. Reuben was full of false promises and over commitment from the start, we had wood damage underneath the roof and were asked for more money for it, first is was $5,000 more but then when questioned more it suddenly was $800? Then after the workmen were pulled from our job to work on others because they had alot of roofs scheduled then, they half tarped over the pieces that werent finished and left it. Well in florida during the rainy season on a leaky roof thats a HORRIBLE idea. OF COURSE one afternoon we walked into the kitchen and it was RAINING INSIDE OUR HOUSEEEEEE! So i called Reuben like he said to if anything was wrong and he was like "it didnt leak when my guys left its not my problem its (the other person who worked on it after my guys left, still someone else within universal) I DONT HAVE TIME FOR THE BLAME GAME I just needed someone out there to tarp the roof and stop the water from pouring in inside, and so he told me to call the other guy it wasnt his problem, UM DO YOU WORK FOR UNIVERSAL AND YOU DID YOU DO MY ROOF IT IS YOUR PROBLEM! so if that isnt bad as is, then he asked for the check and I said I had the full last payment of $7,000 and I GAVE IT TO REUBEN, he showed up one day and called saying they wouldnt continue work if i didnt pay for the rotted wood I said all I had was a full check for the last payment combined and he said it was fine and took it, Then I get asked from another guy WHO ACTUALLY CAME TO REPAIR THE LEAK, if i had submitted final payment and i said yes because REUBEN asked, i was a little worried thinking it had been lost and im not about writing more $7,000 checks. Then after the work is finally complete i get a call saying they dont have the check and CAN I CALL THE BANK TO SEE IF IT CLEARED. Well it didnt so it was lost somewhere, I had it voided and resent, I havent heard back from them, not a THANK YOU or sorry, not even a lien waver or completion packet they promised they would send! OH we got their electrician to come out and give us a quote, great guy great prices, and then the day we call to schedule him they SHUT DOWN the electric part of the company???? without even telling us. ALSO we had ceiling and floor damage from the water damage in the kitchen and we havent even received a call or email or anything about PAYING FOR THE DAMAGE. SAVE YOUR MONEY and TIME and YOUR HAIR! the only person who made this situation fine is TRAVIS, he is the best worker they have, he is honest, he jumps right on the problem and is willing to fix their problems, travis is you are reading this you are too good and too nice for this company! $19,800 and alot of stress later and it is finally done.. I have had many experiences with company providing services for my family. Most of which I can say were forgettable at best. Out of those companies I would average about 40% of them arrived in the timed framed given. Even less finished upon date of contractual or verbal completion. The quality of work usually follows hand and hand with price. Ergo "You get what you pay for!" The people from whom you deal with during the time of said job is a hit or miss. In my interactions from the workers on the site to the workers in the office you are rolling the dice. Now having someone explain to you what is going on and or walking you through the project and answering questions no matter how stupid they seem?!? Very rare as well as to find that without the looks that do not go on behind your back>? Universal from start to finish exceeded every single expectation my wife and I had. There was never anyone late. Let me say that again. There was a time given. Not a time window. ( 2pm to 4pm) Say 1pm and they were here! Maybe there might of been a time or two they were a few minutes early or late but they were here!!! My friend Eric (aka I hate to call him this because I know I never knew him before this but just like everyone with this company, by the time your project is over, I can tell you, new friends and family you will feel like you have!) Came over sat down with my wife and I. We had absolutely did not even think it was possible to get a roof. Eric explain everything to us. Made sure we understood and told us to think on it. We trusted him almost immediately. The Ladies in the office were all over this contract to make sure it got done a fast as possible for us. From Donna to Diana actually it seemed like everyone in the office was helping out in one way or another. They did it. As hard as they worked at it, our roof was approved and put on in about 4 months start to finish. WOW! Now that is Great work from a GREAT office staff. I would like to give a special thank you to Ruben for coming out and repairing a part of my Stucco and made it look Great. He also call and gave me an exact time and was here when he said he would be. That is a quality from a company that in my opinion is a lost trait! Last I would like to Thank the owners of this company as they have made this company a blue print for just about every other company out there to follow. I have seen the way of the world and the way of the company go to the birds because customer service does not mean CRAP! Your company. UNIVERSAL ROOF & CONTRACTING has "CUSTOMER SERVICE EXCELLENCE!" It is not often I feel the absolute need to write a letter like this. But it is indeed a rare occasion when you come across a person like Travis Raper. He came out to look at our roof and give us an estimate. From the moment we met him we knew he was not only a personable, gifted, and knowledgable roofer, but an exceptional human being. He not only talked to us about what he saw on the roof, but he showed us pictures of the places that needed work. He began to tell us about his experiences with this same type of roof (Spanish clay barrel-tile) and we had even more confidence in his work. Now all this is great—you couldn’t ask for anything more of the person handling a roof repair. But Travis is so much more—he brings his deepest self and integrity with him wherever he goes. Politeness is practically a thing of the past, but Travis was always on-time, cheerful, and ready and willing to engage in conversation. And he takes a personal interest in the work he does; he did most of the hard work himself, because he wanted to make sure it was done correctly. Some of the time he had Jeremy, a helper to work alongside. I noticed how he encouraged this man and patiently taught him as they worked together. Travis’ honesty, principle, and sincerity are woven into the work he does, and the person he is. I believe a company is only as strong as the professionals they hire. I would tell you that Universal Roof and Contracting in on solid footing because of Travis Raper. He is a gifted professional, and a man of deep integrity. Sincerely, Liz Tucker

Our home was built in 1996. We had a couple of roof leaks and needed a new roof. I received estimates from a few local roofing companies. We were referred to Universal Roof & Contracting (URC) by a neighbor who had a good experience with them. They reviewed our roof and found some wind and hail damage. We called the insurance adjuster and they had a professional engineer perform an inspection. The engineer agreed with URC who replaced the roof at a cost approved by the insurance adjuster. The roof was replaced in July 2012 during the rainy season. The day of the reroof work, there was intermittent heavy rain and lightning. The crew worked safely and took short breaks between the stormy weather but worked hard to dry-In the roof (and not pack up and leave). We had no leaks during the reroof job. The roof was completed very quickly and professionally. The project manager and crew were courteous and cleaned up virtually all debris. Later the county building inspector arrived and approved the roof work stating that a good job was done. Since replacement, the roof has been tested by several heavy rain and wind storms. We have had no leaks. When contacting the office a few times to schedule the work, make payments, etc. I found each staff member helpful and professional. I would definitely recommend Universal Roof & Contracting to my neighbors and friends.

In 2002, I paid Universal more than $9000 to reroof my house and they did an excellent job. Fast forward to 2016 and I developed a minor leak. I called Universal and asked if they repaired roof leaks on a 2 story house. After being assured that they did, an appointment was arranged for an estimator to come out a few days later. When he arrived he did not have an extension ladder so he could not get on the roof. I showed him where the leak was coming through the ceiling and he did a cursory inspection in the attic. He said that he would have to reschedule the estimate for the following week. I asked if he could give me a ballpark estimate as to the typical charge for a small leak. He informed me their minimum charge was $750. When I obviously looked shocked, his response was that they were "a big company". I told him that if I had been told that during the initial phone conversation with the office or if it had been provided on their website, I could have saved both of us the trouble of the appointment. This is one "big company" that will not be a repeat customer when my house requires the next reroof.

When we were considering new windows for our home, we choose Universal Roofing and Contracting because of the superior job they did when we replaced our roof years ago. We met with Adam and he expertly explained the different features of each window model. He also explained the benefit of replacing our old vinyl siding with new Hardie board siding. Although the cost of both projects scared us at first, Adam worked hard to get us a super deal on both. We were sold! The install crew did an excellent job on demo day and quickly removed the old siding. The site supervisor found several problem areas under the old siding and fixed them on the spot. The house wrap, new window and siding install went very smoothly and the crew’s attention to detail on the water and electrical fittings was outstanding. Clean up and inspections were quickly completed. The overall process was superior and we waste no opportunity to recommend Universal Roofing and Contracting to friends and family. Thanks for a job well done! Dan Gigstead

Seen more than a dozen roofs replaced by different companies over the year following bad hail storm in my neighborhood in Oviedo, FL. Decided to move on with Universal Roof & Contracting Orlando when it came my house. Very happy with the outcome! From the first estimate given by Mr Warren Mellick to the last piece of dust being cleaned off my driveway, it all took five days. What made a real deal was the absolute professionalism of Mr. Ruben Colon, the project manager. Absolutely pleasure to work with. Ruben was always available when needed and kept us informed on what was going on. You could tell he took great pride in his work. All the crew on the job were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. No shortcuts with the job. The yard and the driveway was kept clean and when I say clean - it was that way all three days the crew was working. Have a tremendous deal of respect to Mr. Ruben Colon and his crew for their professionalism. Thank you! Would recommend Universal to anybody.
