Deborah Newman... I feel your pain!! I just went through a similar experience about a week ago and I was told the same story (told me I had to open a new account since I had replaced my card too many times) So I totally agree with you - American Express is not the same company it used to be - they do not value their customers and lack customer service. And if you ask for a manager, forget it!! They are worse! I lost my AMEX, and I have yet to receive a new credit card. I was basically mistreated on the phone, and left in limbo. They asked me for my income, Costco membership, etc... stuff that was irrelevant to my replacement card. After giving them that info, I am still in limbo. I am highly dissappointed. I was on the phone for over an hour with a rep, then a manager. I asked them to inactivate my AMEX, and requested that they block any new charges (after my charges, of course). They had the nerves to tell me that they could not prevent any new changes from coming through... OH REALLY?!! Ridiculous! So you are left with the uncertaintly that anyone can find your new card, make charges, and get away with it. I also asked them to stop/block any automatic payments moving forward. They tell me they cannot do that... they want to make sure that fi there are any auto payment set up, they have to allow them to go through becuase they do not want me to "be late" to any of my "bills due". OH REALLY??! Since did I authorize AMEX to act as my financial manager for my other bills/accounts? They better get their act together because they have competitors - like Citibank waiting for Customoers like us - excellent credit history, loyal, payments on time, etc. AMEX, if you do not value your customers you will loose them. Your Customer Service representatives are insensitive and are definitely NOT looking out for your best interest and bottom line.

I’ve been a loyal AMEX member for over 15 years with a credit line of $75K. As a newly-wed I attempted to gain a card with my account number for my new wife. For some reason AMEX has denied granting a card with my account number with her name due to her ex-husband poor credit and her name was associated with his name. For the life of me, I don’t understand why someone (who charges over $50K a year on his card) is denied a second card for his wife. At this time I would rate AMEX as low as I can and will think about using the VISA card from this time forward. However, AMEX has to be admired for employing their NEW or ADDITIONAL account holder processing center staff in INDIA. With all the people in the USA looking for work, AMEX has to rely on the people of INDA to handle their calls. I guess it’s easier to deny someone a card when you can’t speak clear English. Thank You AMEX. I agree with Deborah Newman (below), AMERICAN EXPRESS is not the company it once used to be. I think they should rename the company to INDIA EXPRESS because of their lack of customer service and support. They were dependable and would stick beside their customers. Their quality of Customer Service is what Clark Howard (WSB-AM-750 radio) calls NO-CUSTOMER SERVICE.

June, 2015: I was robbed of my purse in Bologna, Italy on May 30. Contrary to the ads by Amex of delivering new cards easily to anywhere in the world, I had the worst experience of getting a new Platinum card sent to my next destination in Sorrento. I spent hours and days on my cell phone, going way over my allotted global minutes by hundreds of dollars, trying to find out where the card was and who was responsible for its delivery. I spoke with many different Customer Service reps including supervisors, people in the Card Replacement Group and Global Assist who had no idea where the card was sent to or if it was sent at all. I was desperate because I had no ID cards, money or credit cards and had to pay for hotels, etc. However I must commend Global Assist in Phoenix for paying for my hotel bill in Bologna and a supervisor in Customer Service in Phoenix for getting a card to me at my final destination before departing for home. This whole episode took 4 weeks.

What can I say? American Express is the best out of American credit card businesses. Promoting financial responsibility through pay-in-full policies on charge cards, Amex seeks to build responsible credit history for its charge card holders. Offering local public transportation benefits with subway, bus and train companies like MTA, Greyhound, LIRR and Metro North for green charge card holders would only make their green charge cards more valuable in terms of benefits and please cardholders displeased with the $95 annual fee. Superb customer service. Amazing company.

They are ridiculous! I missed one payment for the FIRST time ever and the suspended my account AND decreased my credit line! Ridiculous! This the first credit card company that has treated me this way. AND the payment was only late by SEVEN days. Ridiculous!

Why is there no way to contact this outfit on the website? The CONTACT US link goes no where and there is no customer service link, there is no phone number. Who in their right mind would deal with such a useless outfit.
