Rediculous charges at a terrible bank.. TCF Bank has a terribly corrupt monopoly on young students at the University of Michigan, and it is for this reason alone that they are still in business. Like many freshman, at orientation the University Encouraged students to open an account with the bank for all of its benefits. This is how they draw in customers. What actually happened for me was after 6 months with an account, they stealthily changed their overdraft fee from a one time $35 fee, to a $25 a day fee. After I received a notification in the mail from them that I had an overdraft, I had already been charged for $350 on a $43 overdraft. This bank not only refused to help me, but was very rude about it.

Horrible. I am a freshman college student with a checkings account with them. My parents put in money every so often for food and groceries and stuff. They dont warn me when i have a low balance and they let you take out money when you have NONE in the account. So when you do, they charge you a KILLING. i checked my account to find i owed them a lot of money and had i not checked it on their site i NEVER Would have known. im defintely cancelling my account asap.

My 16 year old son lost his wallet while at DEBATE CAMP, so I used Western Union to send him money... with a secret password since he had no ID (lost wallet). Tried Walgreens which did not work at their KIOSK, then tried TCF since they were FULL SERVICE, and as suggested by WU staff. They told my son he needed his ID, WHAT??? NO HELP AT ALL !!

Terrible Bank. The worst in customer service. They use the free checking model to prey on unsuspecting people like the poor and college students and then crush them with ridiculous fees. On the plus side, they do have a machine that will count your change.

TCF, I hope the $72 fee was worth losing my business (of 10+ years). These vultures at TCF are just waiting for their customers to make a mistake, then swoop in and charge ridiculous fees (which the managers will not even consider reversing).

Easy account opening, great perks- what other bank gives students free ATMs anywhere outside of MI? Friendly service, coin counter and the bank being one without predatory credit card lending make this the best place to bank.

New fees my minimum balance went from 500 to 10,000 for free checking and had to buy checks. So i get hit 19 for checks then 10 a month for service charge to hold my money, BA BYE!!!

This is a terrible bank. I only had trouble with them. They will do anything to charge a ridiculous fee. Avoid!
