My first conversation went well with Joe Hesch and I felt comfortable proceeding and using Academy Mortgage for our home loan. After the initial conversation I was contacted by Joe Kemp who I guess took over my file. Because I was prepared, I had all necessary documents ready to go upon request. From that point on I felt that I was kept out of the loop and had no idea where in the preapproval/approval process we were. The first Approximate Loan Cost document I received was completely off and I had to point out the mistakes. The second one had a higher interest rate and I again had to call him out on it. In addition to that we knew we would have funds left over from the seller and I gave specific instructions about how I wanted them handled and where to allocate them. At that time I called Joe Hesch and voiced my concerns and reiterated my intent for the funds. I was reassured that my interest rate was indeed the lower rate and we would be able to closes early. He also agreed that we would use up all the extra money and put it towards the appraisal and HOA dues. To make a long story short we did close on time (5 weeks for closing) but the entire time no one told me about locking my rate, I had to call and ask about that or at what point we would go into underwriting. I emailed Joe Kemp the day before closing regarding the funds that the seller was paying asking for a list of where they allocated those funds. Not surprising he did not respond. I went to the closing table thinking they had done the right thing but found out very quickly that was not the case. One of the first papers we came across showed that Joe decided he wanted to use that money and charge me points to lower my interest rate, something we NEVER talked about! I was livid and my relator, myself as well as the title company, who were all appalled began to try and get ahold of Joe Hesch and Joe Kemp. I sent both of them text messages as well as called them repeatedly. I was by no means surprised they did not answer my called. We continued with the paper work excluding anything that had to do with that and kept trying to call. I thought by calling the office phone of Joe Hesch I might get lucky and get a receptionists but low and behold Joe Kemp answered. I told him he knew exactly what my intentions were for those funds and he told me he knew I did not want the money to go back to the seller so that’s how he decided to use it. He basically stole that money from me and was hoping I was not smart enough to see amongst the stack of paper work. I am disgusted with the lack of professionalism of both Joe Hesch for failing to get back to me and Joe Kemp for his lack of communication and fraudulent use of my money and plan of voicing my opinion to whoever will listen including any review site that Academy Mortgage is listed on.

Stay away from Academy Mortgage! I am an experienced Realtor in Phoenix area and have worked with multitude of lenders on many different transactions. I have never experienced more unprofessional service nor suffered the wrath of angry buyers and sellers, than with Academy Mortgage and The Joe Edwards Team in Chandler. Academy was the lender for the buyer and I represented the seller for a $360K property. We received and accepted an offer from the buyer with an approved pre-qualification from Academy Mortgage on May 4th. Academy kept assuring the seller, multiple times over the next 30 days, that everything was great, the buyer had strong credit scores, plenty of income and that loan approval was no problem. Based on these assurances from Academy, the home was taken off the market and placed in ‘pending’ status; the seller moved everything out of the home and leased another property, the buyers made plans to relocate, they even enrolled their children in the local schools. Two days before the scheduled close of escrow Academy Mortgage notified the parties that the buyer was “a great borrower” but Academy’s loan processing was just “taking a bit longer than we expected”. So with everyone still trusting The Joe Edwards Team at Academy Mortgage, buyer requested and seller granted a one week extension for closing until June 11th. A date which came and went with no loan approval but Academy assuring the parties that they “were working late and really pushing” this loan through the approval process… Then on June 13th the buyers and sellers receive a form letter: “Statement of Credit Denial” from Academy Mortgage with the reason boxed checked “insufficient income”!!! The buyer’s income should have been checked and verified prior to issuing their meaningless prequalification letter 40 days ago! Do yourself a favor and don’t walk, but run away from Academy Mortgage. They will break your heart and cost you endless frustration, time, and money.

Jonathan Garcia with Academy Mortgage has got to be the best in the business! I had no knowlegde of the mortgage process, and he walked me through every step. He made everything smooth and comfortable as can be. This day and age, customer service is usually dead. Not with Jonathan! He was emailing me quotes and prequals at 9:00pm on a Sunday night! (I did not expect an answer until the next day!) Always answered both calls and texts any time of day, was very knowlegable and had great insight! I would never go to anyone else. I feel like a friend, not just a paycheck. You rock Jonathan! You will get my recommendation for years to come. Thanks buddy!

I talked with Bryan Canar for the first time and knew he was the guy to trust being well recommended by JoAnna Barraza my realtor, I actually had a good feeling about this. They were always responsive to my questions, even at odd hours! Early on, Jason took the time to call me at home and explain the whole process and answer any questions I had. He was also willing to go the extra mile when it looked like our closing may be delayed due to the sale of my previous home being delayed. Jon Crawford and Brian Bowen were great. We just moved into our home this past weekend. They made the process very simple and Brian was so detailed in what was required that it made for a very smooth transaction. They were also very attentive and would respond to questions and our realtor within the hour. We did have a hiccup and did not close on time due to some network error and the underwritter being swamped but Brian made it up to us by sacrificing his wekend and helping us move! Def above and beyond to make their customers happy :) I would def recommend Jon and his team.

Had it not been for his experience and ability to put together a solid package before going to underwriting, there is no question that we would have not been able to buy the home of our dreams.
