Ship Sinking If you find yourself in a situation of pain and suffering and being pressured to sign papers and have a company telling what a great guy you are and offer some money to sign over your rights please read this before making a poor decision for a quick dollar. I was involved with an offshore core drilling ship sinking due to structural failure after substandard repairs ordered by the shipping company, on the maiden voyage from a shipyard. We sank 150 miles offshore in heavy weather soaked in toxic waste and diesel fuel and were rescued by USCG. After this ship sinking took place the company had debriefings and officer inquires with there maritime lawyers and maritime investigators. The company had a fleet manager that would interrupt me and state things were fixed that in reality he refused to fix. All this took place before the company considered to send all of us to doctors for injuries. When I was seen by the company doctor at a occupational health clinic they took an x-ray of my back and said I just had some pulled muscles and nervous from the accident so they gave me heavy sedatives and pain medication. Then came the settlement offer from the company stating what a good job I did and said I deserved a nice settlement if I would sign a release of responsibility. My question to the company was what if I do not want to settle right now and get checked out by my doctors, the answer was take the settlement or get fired. After being through hell on the high seas and a company trying to strong arm me into signing a release my wife and self prayed then went on line in search of an attorney and we found Arnold and Itkins on a weekend. Monday Morning we received a call from Arnold and Itkins and they set my wife and self up with a 2 way flight and transportation to and from there Houston Office and back home. Once I met with Kurt Arnold I felt like I was in safe hands. Kurt went on to explain my options of going with the company or choosing him as an attorney, he never pressured me to sign a contract with him as a matter of fact he did not want me to sign anything that day and told me to wait until I felt comfortable to either choose the company I worked for or Arnold and Itkins Law Firm. I chose Arnold and Itkins for representation. Turns out after an MRI 1 hurniated disc in neck 1 herniated disc in mid back and one burst disc in lower back. There was several other issues that came along with chemical exposures. While the case was developing The firm helped me pay my bills. Took care of all doctor bills, medication and operation. The doctors Arnold and Itkins Law Firm use are top notch professionals that have many years of practice. As a matter of fact there investigators and profesional services are top notch, polite and coordiace. By the time everything was over the case never made it to court. I ended up with a life changing settlement that will keep me off the high seas forever. I can say no amount of money will ever take the pain I live with away and on the flip side of that coin I could have ended up unemployable with nothing to show for my family or self the strugles of going through a ship sinking and being a good old boy signing over all my rights to the very company that put us in harms way could have left me broke phisicaly, and financially.
