The day my husband, friends and I spent at Kings Canyon was one of my favorite from our trip. We hiked Mist Falls Trail, a 8.1 mile trail with a 1082ft elevation change. Things we loved: the trails boasts a wide variety of topographical elements. It starts in a lovely, flat pine grove and works its way into the mountains along a gorgeous river. As you continue to climb, the trail wraps around to an open area with stunning views of the mountains and the far off horizon. Persisting to Mist Falls is most certainly worth it as the views are stunning. The trail length is perfect as its certainly physically exerting, but not so challenging that it was no longer enjoyable. Things we tolerated: the mosquitos were AWFUL! Even while loaded with bug spray we came out covered in bites (we went in June 2016). The trail is an "in and out trail" (as opposed to a loop). Not a big deal, but some people prefer loops. We also got the pleasure of spotting a black bear along the trail. He walked across the trail about 30 yards in front of us and just continued on his way!

Kings Canyon was a pleasant surprise. As part of a 37 day road trip, my fiance and I were set on visiting Sequoia then figured we would explore Kings while we were there. Exploring both really lets you see a variety of scenery in a considerably short distance. We had two favorite spots in Kings: 1) there is a very small are to pull off the side of the road just before Hume Lake on the left or if you are leaving from Hume Lake it is shortly after you leave on your right. The pull off has a small and narrow area you can walk/slide down and it leads to a gorgeous overlook atop a huge smooth rock surface. 2) Heading back toward Sequoia you pass alongside the river. Pull off here and *carefully* and make your way down to the water. This is a beautiful river in the midst of two beautiful parks and a great location for pictures!

Probably the most isolated and beautiful of the magnificent national parks in California. Sure it takes longer to get to, you have to go through Sequoia National Park, but it is absolutely worth. The canyon is breathtaking and the drive with the views very enjoyable. Get everything you need from outside the park including enough gas. In certain areas you can get coin operated showers if you are camping. There are also lots of options for cabins and small mountain hotels at reasonable prices when not in high season. We went there for a long 4th of July weekend and it was insanely crowded but we were still able to get decent campsites without reservations in a first come first serve campground. Lots of hikes with beautiful rivers and occasional mellow bears around, bring your good camera.

The Kings Canyon National Park is an underrated by being next to other better-known and more popularity as Sequoia or Yosemite. However its landscapes, its landscapes and its fauna and flora make this National Park has a special charm and is much less crowded and quieter than previous in the heart of California and a few kilometers of Fresno.

Great park, actually only wanted to sniff, in the end we drove to the bottom of the ravine and went there, on the return we met a black bear. Car must absolutely fill before driving into the park. you can get at Hume Lake, but cost 4.5 USD per gallon

I found this park amazing! If one is always around here you should take a little time and look over here. The Sequoia trees are so incredibly huge and if you still have happiness and a ranger explains what sets these trees, one comes from the no longer marvel out!

It was drizzling when we visited and the weather was perfect. It was cloudy and little cold. This is the itinerary we followed: Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park itinerary all best points in sequence: Day1 - Kings Canyon visitor Centre and ask them about all the points - general grant grove, general grant tree - panoramic point - Hume lake - junction view - boyden cave - grizzly falls - Roaring River falls Day2: Foothills visitor centre Sherman tree trail Giant forest museum Lodgepole visitors centre Tunnel log Moro rock

Compared to Sequoia National Park, the access roads are just scary. After driving the first 10 miles I had to return. Roads so, far I went were straight. No problem there. Real problem is lack of shoulder for the road as well as protection, from steep down drop. Roads apparently were built 89 years ago. Its time to upgrade. What are they waiting for ? more people to die falling off the cliffs, off the shoulders!!!??? Scary! My advice, dont visit Kings Canyon national park. One move, and you will be dead, as a door nail!

Hiking trails are various in difficulty and you need to drive 30-60 minutes to some of the better Vista spots but there are lots of rabbit trails to safely explore along major tracks. Many wheelchair accessible paths to enjoy and parking is available if you can walk a bit. There are different patches and souvenirs at each ranger station ...a reward for hitting all the trailheads. Sunset campground spots 38, 40, 52, 53, 54 provide the best level tent space and views of the sunset over the valley.

A park perhaps less known but of great impact. We enter into a spectacular canyon with rocks and then a spectacular and pristine vegetation. Many recently beaten track and then in full contact with the wilderness

I just visited the Grant tree and the visitors center here. There were tons of crowds on the trail to the Grant tree and it took away from the experience a lot, try to go earlier in the morning or later in the evening if you can. The visitors center was under construction when I went, but I expect it will be very nice once the renovations are complete! The general store has all the basics you need and I also saw a General Sherman IPA for sale that looked pretty neat. :)

This is a wonderful National Park!! I found it was not as crowded as Sequoia or Yosemite but still had breath taking views! I definitely recommend coming here if you enjoy staying away from all the crowds. Also if are a moderately advanced hiker I recommend hiking to look out peak. Very beautiful views. The last mile is tough though, not well marked, atleast not that i saw. Gps on your smartphone usually works on your Google maps. It will help. :-)

Collection of beautiful view, valley and waterfalls. Breathtaking view of valley driving to the end of the road in Kings canyon park. Grizzly falls and Roaring River Falls is must see. Lots of other waterfalls for longer hikes which we were not able to see. Hume lake is a relaxing place to have lunch, picnic, swim and chill. Cedar Grove has beautiful hike to see really giant trees. If you are visiting Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon is MUST.

Kings Canyon National Park is situated in southern Nevada Mountains, east of Fresno County, California. The park was established in 1940, it covers an area of 461,901 acres. General Grant for the protection of forests, in 1890 the establishment of the General Grant National Park, has been incorporated into the park.

Kings Canyon is the secret National Park of all the National Parks in the Western USA. Everyone knows about the neighboring Sequoia and Yosemite, but Kings Canyon is a hidden gem. And the traffic is usually much more moderate so less people to deal with! I loved the area near where the main road ends around South Fork Kings River. In addition to some easy hiking trails in the area, the water was calm so there are some splash time options .

Who really gives a 1 star to a National Park anyway. Fantastic park and worth the extra drive if you are already in Sequoia NP. 2 beautiful waterfall hikes. Grizzly falls was only 50 feet off the road. Roaring River falls was probably 300 yards off the road on a paved trail. Great for wheelchairs and small children. Both are picturesque. The drive down to the bottom of the canyon features breathtaking views of monstrous stone cliffs.

Beautiful and breathtaking. So many places to discover. So very quiet. Some road repair s going on through the park. Looks like to fix a small slide from winter, but so worth traffic and stop and go to enter. Kudos to the park rangers who valiantly braved the heat and Sun to help visitors get to parking during labor day weekend. Every one you speak with at the park are professional and just some of the nicest people.

Super nice park. Peace. Genuine pure nature. 3.5 hours walking on a trail path, and no one encounter. Only three deer on 5 mtr. away! So enjoy. Nicer and much quieter than Yosemite.

Home to some of the largest trees on the planet, Kings Canyon Park is an amazing place.. Its about a 4 hour drive from Los Angeles and the Grant Grove with General Grant (2nd largest tree on Earth) is a sight to behold.. Take a night off and stay at the lodge in the Cedar Grove and visit all the attractions nearby.. Weather varies a lot seasonally, so, make sure to check the forecast before your visit..

California, a western U.S. state, stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific for nearly 900 miles. Its terrain includes cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the Mojave Desert. The city of Los Angeles is the seat of the Hollywood entertainment industry. Hilly San Francisco is known for the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island and cable cars.

We visited here in may and it was not busy. Only one campground was open because the spring melt was still in full swing. Getting here is a long mountain drive on windy cliff face roads with spectacular views. You can only drive in a very small part of the park and it would best be visited if you plan to spend some time back country. Still a visit by car is worth it. Just breathtaking scenery.

Beautiful place. The roads follows a river, made the drive very enjoyable. It was much less crowded than the close by Sequoia park, yet more beautiful. We went to grizzly falls and roaring falls. Grizzly falls has a good picnic area were u can chill out. We went in July, the falls and river had good amount of water due to heavy rains in winter. Normally spring might be best time to visit.

The kings canyon park is a gem of California. Much less crowded then Yosemite but just as amazing. It has both the Giant Sequoias as well as the majestic granite rock peaks. It the best of Sequoia and Yosemite national park in one. Its easily accessible, with major towns like Fresno less then an hour and a half(1.5 hours) from the park entrance up a beautiful mountain highway I may add.

Had a great few days in the park...stayed in Sheep Creek Campground...our rig is a 29 ft. 5th Wheel...after much looking found a pull through, but had to back in as there was a BIG tree that kept us pulling through...needs better leveling also. Except for the voracious appetite of the mosquitoes, had a wonderful time. Campsites well spaced so you are not on top of your neighbors.

Kings Canyon park adjacent to Sequoia park is easily accessible by car as well. You need to pay the toll for the roadway. For this one payment, however, you can access both the parks. You can descent from the peak above the canyone to its lowest place. See and hear the roaring river. Enjoy on your own body the Grizzly falls or sleep over in many of the camp grounds.

The road to the valley is impressive, on the side of the hills/cliffs/mountains. The valley is nice but not as nice as Yosemite. Therefore if you are in a time crunch and already have seen Yosemite, I would skip this and spend more time in Sequoia natl park. As the full drive to the valley and back is 3 hours and that is without taking any long walk or stops.

The park is for sure a one of the best in the west. It is very popular on weekends to get out of the heat. I rather go on week days because there are too many people on Sundays. A visit must be well planned because the entrance fees are not cheap. Bring own refreshments like water food is expensive, Gas up before driving up there.
