Let’s be honest: by the time you need an attorney, you and your close loved ones have probably been through the wringer, sustained a lot of drama and/or conflict, and you arrive to your first attorney consultation somewhat traumatized and distrustful of people in general. Added to that is choosing an attorney can be a gamble. No matter how much research you do, or how many personal referrals you have, it really comes down to taking a chance on a stranger who may or may not jive with you or advocate exactly as you think you need. Word to the wise: it is smart to retain an attorney for any situation in which you have to deal with an unstable relationship, the court system, a professional issue, or a situation in which your livelihood or income is in play. First and foremost: cost. Most people don’t have a slush fund for legal issues or a long, protracted court battle. Attorney Hatley’s costs are beyond reasonable, did not cause undue financial strain, and likely are the best in the region. Minutes into our first consultation, Attorney Hatley was able to cut to the heart of the matter – she grasped intuitively that it was about my children and advocating for them. Attorney Hatley expertly navigated, motions filed and attorneys retained, and she did so directly with verbiage that accurately reflected the big-picture goals - even when I was uncomfortable facing conflict head-on. It took almost two years to be heard by the court due to multiple continuances and rescheduled hearing dates. Clients should anticipate that, because attorneys and cases are at the mercy of an overscheduled and understaffed North Carolina court system. Through it all, Attorney Hatley remained calm and focused on the long game. Along the way, she appropriately presented options and had me consider them, but ultimately she steered me toward a position of strength. During days of sitting and waiting in court, we saw many attorneys in action as they presented cases, and we gleaned a glimpse of how other attorneys operate. By far, Attorney Hatley was the most composed, prepared, and unflappable in comparison to over a dozen of her colleagues. Even on days when we weren’t heard, despite the frustration of sitting in court and costs spent on traveling, I stuck with Attorney Hatley and trusted her. When it came down to the trial, Attorney Hatley had about 10 days to prepare a strategic plan for almost two years of developments in the case in addition to countermotions and allegations, which would have buried and intimidated a less proficient professional firm. Despite this, Attorney Hatley’s whole staff kept in consistent contact with me, and were especially supportive on occasions when I was not feeling particularly brave or strong. Attorney Hatley employed tremendous strategies in court that surprised even me – her client - let alone everyone else. Attorney Hatley didn’t sweat small stuff or get bogged down in irrelevant minute details, which can belabor an already tedious process. She was razor-sharp and relaxed, respectful to everyone on the stand whether on our side or not, and appropriately deferential to the judge but she spoke up and objected when warranted. On breaks and during recesses, she was completely down-to-earth with me, my family, and my character witnesses. I never thought that a trial would actually be a positive experience, but it really was, especially with Attorney Hatley at my side. The court is supposed to work for both parties and be fair. Attorney Hatley knew I was human, and had imperfect and frustrated moments along the way, and she supported and defended me. She never wavered in her overall strategy and that is reflected in the positivity I feel to this day. I am grateful for top-notch legal representation.

I only give three stars because I did receive sound legal advice. I have visited the establishment a total of five times. Each time I dealt with a different individual. The door was locked a couple of times, and one time it was open with a customer waiting but no one at the desk. My simple summation is there is no organization, and client’s concerns are trivialized. They have an online system to track clients and documents; however, the lawyer has an aversion to using the system and likes to email directly while the paralegals do use the system. In my opinion, information is not passed between the different individuals effectively. In the end, my paperwork took about twice the time I was originally told. Moreover, it did not come from the paralegal who said she would upload it to the system but rather from the lawyer directly. It had some obvious typos that I corrected and sent back. However, I did not receive a response. Additionally, when I dropped the signed copy of that document off, I had another document prepared by a paralegal. It also had rather obvious typos that the paralegal would not correct. I pointed this out to the lawyer via email, and I was told she did not authorize me to correct the document which, “has worked time and time again”. What really had me rolling was when she stated the paralegal could not alter the document without her approval… right after I had witnessed the paralegal type the document. So she can type it… she just cannot correct it. It’s just a bridge too far. The lawyer continued by chastising me for bugging her with my problem. She went further by implying I did not care about her current custody case. To be fair… I did not. Specifically, because it had nothing to do with me or my documentation. By reading the email, I would assume I had busted into court and started screaming not sent an email to an email address the lawyer had told me to use if I ever had any problems. I would have hoped she would have tried to use the event as an opportunity to improve her business, but sadly that was not the case. The lawyer is content with the way her office is ran and with presenting clients documents that contain obvious typos. I cannot speak to the lawyer’s skills as a litigator. I never had a court case. In all honesty, I assume she must be very good to be successful with an office that runs in the manner I described.

My experience with the Hatley Law firm has been one to read about. As I write this review, I hope that all who read it, will gain clarity and perspective in their decision-making process. If you are looking for a qualified team to represent you then you have arrived at the right place. My situation like others- was broken and I was in need of real help. I didn’t know where to turn or where to begin. Beginning seemed like an impossibility because so much was coming to an end. But I did my research, took a chance, and walked in their door. My life changed forever. My first visit compromised of meeting the staff and being warmly welcomed into an environment of trust. They knew me because they had been me. During my case the staff had sent me encouraging e-mails and that’s when I found out that the reason for the unexpected atmosphere: Angela Hatley had been intimately involved in helping her staff fight the good fight before they were even her staff. I am so thankful for Angela and her team; Tracy(receptionist), Christi (paralegal), and Leydis (paralegal) were each amazing in their own skillset and helped expedite my case with a sense of urgency and genuine concern. These are amazing ladies! Angela fought for us. Angela listened to me. Angela was invested in my situation outside of things like retainer fees and filing fees. She truly cared about me and my children. She was competent and ready to fight for us. And she did. 20 Days after walking in her office, my case was resolved. I believe that REAL help comes from above. Angela Hatley and her staff was that help for me. They were an answered prayer and I will forever be thankful for each of them. I will remember their names and what they did for us always. If I could reconcile my thoughts about this team and their leader, Angela Hatley, it would be Superlative: Of the highest quality and degree.

If I could give her 10 Stars I would! Attorney Hatley is absolutely a great Lawyer. She has been representing me in a custody battle, and I have to say that I am very happy with the results up to now. Her and her staff are very responsive. I feel like all my concerns and issues are addressed in a expedite manner. I was recommended to her from another father fighting for custody and I would recommend her to any other parent trying to do the right thing for there children. After investing 6K in my previous layer, he told me that I did not have a chance at primary custody. After I got rid of him and sought out Attorney Hatley representation, the change has been night and day. My child now lives with me. She is vey professional and experienced. Ms Hatley is The Best ! January 21, 2017 Ms Hatley is THE attorney to retain if you want to win your case. She is very thorough, caring and patient. She took her time to completely explain every step of each process of my custody suit with me. I was attempting to obtain custody of my 10 year old granddaughter and it took 357 days , but Ms Hatley did it ! Not once did we not have My granddaughter with us through the whole ordeal. She was able to obtain the correct paperwork to have her place with us immediately . I cannot sayenough positive things about her. This was a very emotional case and she was unbelievably patient and caring. Ms Hatley is the attorney you want if you want to win your case .

Angela Hatley and her employees were very professional and friendly. I hired Ms. Hatley to handle my divorce and she took the time to make sure I understood the process and legal implications of everything involved. She really showed a firm understanding of the law and prevented my ex from taking me to the cleaners. Because she lied to my face we left and are now going somewhere else. I never got the chance to see Mrs.Hatley but I am sure she is terrific, the front staff not so much!
