I advise all perspective to customers to not use Michael & Son. The level of professionalism is horrendous. Case in point. I scheduled this company to do a routine checkup of my ac. Tech was scheduled to come out on Saturday between 12-4. I took off from work, waited 5 1/2 hours and tech never showed although I did receive a call saying he was running late from the cust. rep.. However, they could not tell me how much longer it would be. As such, I rescheduled for Sunday for the window of 8-12 and was told I was first out. Sunday morning, 8 am I received a phone from cust. rep. saying the tech had worked until 4 in the morning, was tired and would have to reschedule. For the third time, I rescheduled for another Saturday, 8-12 am slot, was told I was first out and took off from work . 12:30 pm and no tech, again received phone call saying he was running behind. That day I called rep. and complained, told them I refused to reschedule and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told they do not work on weekends but she would create a correspondence and the sup. would call me. Five days went by and no call from Sup. I called and was told the Dept. Mgr. would call me. "George" the Dept. Mgr called me and said he had tried to call but had "dialed the wrong number." I told him of the situation and how I was going to respond to said sit. George in the beginning asked If we could fix things as well as asking at the end if anything could be done to fix things. I responded "no." George at no time apologized, never empathized, never acknowledged the problem, never assumed responsibility on behalf of the company, and never even offered to investigate the situation in the hopes that this would not occur in the future to another client. Perhaps management should take a lesson from their cust. phone reps on appropriate and professional responses.Additionally, this company seems to schedule/over book scheduling given that with the scheduling of the last appt. I was told by the rep, that there were multiple opening slots and she could even fit me in for the following morning if I wanted. Yet they are so busy that they do not come out when scheduled.

I ordered a new energy efficient heat pump from Michael and Son on December 4th and arranged for the installation to be done on December 7th. I received a call from Marcus, one of the installation team, early that Saturday morning letting me know what time to expect them. When the team (Marcus and Randy) arrived, they didn’t mind taking the time to get to know our dogs once I explained that it would be so much easier for all of us after the dogs got to know them a little. I even slipped a few dog treats to Randy, which the dogs eagerly accepted from him along with a lot of petting and ear scratching. After the introductions were over, I put up gates to keep the dogs out of their way so they could work without interruptions. They covered the entire work area from the front door to the attic access in the hallway with drop cloths. Both Marcus and Randy were very quick to respond to any questions we had while they were working. After the installation was completed, Marcus thoroughly explained how to set the new thermostat and gave me the manual for the thermostat for future reference. Randy asked my husband to come into the attic with him so he could show him the furnace and explain some things about the drainage. Marcus asked us if it would be alright to leave the manual for the furnace on top of the unit in the attic so it would be there for the technician just in case there’s ever a problem with the unit. We agreed that it would be best to do that. Marcus and Randy were very polite and professional at all times. They both worked hard for several hours to get the entire system installed. The weather that day was rather dreary but thankfully it wasn’t raining since there was quite a bit of work outside the house as well. I have to say that I’m glad I chose Michael and Son because everything went smoothly. It’s been two weeks since the installation and everything is working perfectly. Kudos go out to Marcus and Randy for making this a very pleasant experience.

If I could I would rate them less than a star. I had a small water main leak in front of my house. I called several plumbers, asking if they could pin point the leak without tearing up my front yard. The M&S operator assured me that they could find the leak, and that it would be a minimum of $29 for an estimate. The M&S technician came out and said he did not have his normal truck, and could not find the leak. He charged me $29 and gave me an estimate to repair my water main pipe, based on where the water was pooling in my front yard. He gave me his cell phone number and recommended a local leak detection company find the leak (contrary to what the M&S operator said). Later I had the leak detection company come by and they charged me ($275), and found the leak in the same vicinity we thought it was in. I later called the M&S tech and told him of the findings and he said he would still honor his initial $849.99 estimate to repair the water main line (I explained the findings in great detail) . Once the same M&S got out to the house, he stated he was usually and indoor plumber and that the price would be $1736. I said how can that be, and refused to let him do the work. On the way out the tech told me that they were the "Best" and that this kind of repair was his specialty. Even though he told me earlier that he misquoted the price of the repair, because he was an "indoor plumber". Update...I received a phone call from the plumbing manager of M&S who was very apologetic about my experience. He made it a point to say that this is not the way M&S does business, and made a monetary adjustment that makes me feel a lot better about M&S.

Made an uneventful appointment. The new guy shows up, notices that I have dogs, and starts to make excuses about the owner of the house not being present (an adult that is able to make decisions on the home was). The tech said someone would call to reschedule..it never happened. At 4:30 the same day I had to call, no manager could be found to speak with me. I let them know I would just look for a reliable company, shortly after I hung up I was contacted by a manager that was apologetic and "would make it right" offered half off service and a senior tech that did not have a fear of animals. Well The time for the next appointment came and passed. After calling to inquire if anyone was showing up to the scheduled appointment, the attempt to contact another manager was again a failure. I stayed on hold for over 20min. I make one last attempt to call, this time an attempt to contact a manager for scheduling was made in vain. What a complete waste of my time. 8 hours and loads of empty promises. You need to change you propaganda message on your answering service. The only thing you have exceeded my expectations on was making me mad for wasting my time. Time to call a reliable company.

Called for new heat pump system. I was promised this would get completed in a day. WHAT A JOKE!! The salesman said I had the wrong size system in and that I should get a smaller system. So HVAC guys came and left me with a window unit for AC because it was smoldering hot without AC. The electrician came after the HVAC guys and said he could not complete the job and therefore I was left without AC except for my little old window unit that they left. So the next day no one showed up to complete the job. The following day a new electrician came out and finished the job. The AC would not cool the house at all. So needless to say my daughter and I were still baking. Couple of days go by and then another person comes and checks the system. Everything is good they say. Another day goes by and we finally get one of the original guys to come back and he finally patches some leaks from a system that was deemed "completed correctly". At this point we had just about the whole company come to our house to complete this one day job. Oh and did I mention that we live an hour away from Norfolk and just about every employee kept complaining about the drive over........ Good luck if you use Michael and Son.

Mike Lewis was my technician. He was very professional and personable. He accurately diagnosed my problem in 5 minutes. Without me turning even turning on my system. Not a chance of doing any more damage. My attic must have been 100+ degrees. He had to drive from Harborview to Chesapeake and back to get the fan wheel. He had the motor that needed to be replaced on his truck. I talked to him while he was working outside at his truck. He was very nice to talk to. He took off 10% of the bill. He checked my exterior unit on the side of my house (a condo) and told me the landscapers put the mulch right up next to the units, and that they really need space and air to breathe. He cleaned out the mulch around the base of the unit. What a guy. He explained the answers to all my questions. This employee needs recognition. This company has my trust and hence my business. 5 stars from me. Thanks Mike. You give me hope that there are people an businesses that have integrity. Thanks for fixing my broken AC so quickly and professionally, it is running very quietly and smoothly. very sincerely, shawn brady

Outstanding Service by Aidan. We had been having some issues with our electricity and finally an entire circuit would not work and kept tripping the circuit breaker. We called on September 29 and they sent someone right out. The Electrician, Aidan checked out out entire house and we discovered that a critter had been up in our attic making meals out of our wiring, the entire length of the house. We also discovered a well switch had shorted out and a wall recepticle and switch were also in need of repair. Aidan was knowledgable and very personable and he answered all of our questions and explained everything. It was late in the day and we elected to schedule the repairs for October 1st in the morning. Within a few hours everything was fixed and we even had a whole house surge protector installed. We were so pleased with the work and the price was nothing short of a bargain. I have nothing but good things to say about this company. We have had bad experiences in the past, but we will be calling Michael and Sons for any future repairs. You have restored my faith!!! :)

My first experience with Michael and Son on Thursday, July 6, 2017 was great. I was looking at a possible health hazard looming in my master bath shower area on the second floor of my home. Had an annoying leak behind the shower wall emanating from the shower area, leaking through the flooring down through to the kitchen pantry on the first floor of my home. As promised, Michael and Son technician (Mr. Joe Creasey) showed up on time and immediately started troubleshooting the issue; What could be causing the leak and where is the initial starting point for the leak. Mr. Creasey was truly an exemplary professional technician, he zeroed in on the REAL problem and immediately shared his findings with me. After explaining the plan of attach, Mr. Creasey was very methodical and professional during the repair process. I am extremely happy with how the repair turned out. Mr. Creasey is from old school of: Pride and Professionalism. He and Michael and Son deserves an A+ in my book. Terry L. Holmes, Sr.

Not business friendly. I own a small family business and was searching for a permanent relationship with a reputable company to repair my facility in terms of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. After talking to reps and reading reviews of Michael and Son, I decided to have them diagnose my AC unit and give me a price. Their technician diagnosed my unit and said 1. The unit is older than the technician, 2. He wanted $4,000.00 to repair the unit. 3. Tech strongly suggested replacing the entire unit for $8,000.00. First off, the unit was manufactured in 2004 - so I am to assume this technician is telling me he is younger than 13 years old? Next, I had another company diagnose it and they found a leak in a copper line by the compressor. $450.00 was my bill for repairs. Michael and Son Services was trying to rip me off with a dishonest estimate and bs facts. If you own a business and are looking for a commercial account, look elsewhere because they will rip you off.
