No idea how they are for claims, but I decided to cancel our policy December 2016 by phone call and subsequent email in response to their email asking me to confirm I wish to cancel. Then noticed recurring withdrawals from my bank account for following 3 months, even after a couple more emails asking them to reverse the charges (given I had already cancelled). With no response from Trupanion I was forced to ask my bank to reverse the charges and block them from withdrawing any further funds. Trupanion continued to send me overdue payment warnings for another month when I called them again to ask them to stop harassing me for payments after cancelling 4 months ago. They asked me to forward the email from December and they finally acknowledged after the 4th email.

We have had Trupanion Insurance on our Old English Sheepdog since 2012. Our policy includes a provision for payment of dog kenneling (up to $500) when the policy holder is hospitalized for 2 or more weeks. My husband who is the policy holder was hospitalized for 2 months. He submitted the claim and copies of his medical record by registered mail on 6/23/17. Trupanion received the claim form and documents on 6/26/17. It is July 12, 2017 and we have heard absolutely nothing from them. This is a straightforward claim. Obviously, they are trying to figure out how to get out of paying this claim. We are paying $74 a month for this insurance!

The WORST COMPANY!!!! We signed up our 2 Boston Terriers with Trupanion and in our original policy it stated that the rates would not increase more than 20%. We noticed that this year they changed the policy without a signature or verification from us that we approved the change and then increased our rates a THIRD!!! We went from paying $70 per dog to $100!!! Totally outrageous!!! We never even filed one claim with them. When I called customer service they said they can legally do that and would not provide a refund. If you use Trupanion expect HUGE increases and ZERO customer care.

So far we have been very underwhelmed with Trupanion. I have my 3 young dogs (all under 3 years old) enrolled. We have put in two claims, and Trupanion has paid practically nothing on both claims. They do not pay for exams, and when any kind of lab testing is done on a separate day for the same ailment, they consider it a separate claim, so put it towards a new deductible. So if your pet is in the hospital, every day is a new claim, and you have to meet a new deductible for each day - RIDICULOUS!!! Not worth the money I am paying for it for certain.

Bought original policy for about $23 per month 10 years ago. They have raised it to $117.47. The plan "will never increase because of the age of your dog or condition." Total legal nonsense. Plus the plan does not cover exams, diagnostics, vaccinations, neuter, spay or hospital stays flea and worm meds,(90% of normal vet costs). We have had enough of the deception of 20% increases now every year and are quitting the plan. We should have years ago. Be smart put the money in the dogs account, you will far ahead.

My dog had an accident a few years ago that required surgery. The coverage exceeded my out of pocket cost and monthly premiums. My dog passed away last month. I cancelled the policy. The person that I spoke with during this call was awesome. She was empathetic to our loss. Then I received a card from their office a few days ago!!

Horrible Customer Service. Put in a claim, waited over two weeks, and got no response. Emailed to see what the hold up was, in less than 6 hours got a denial email. Emailed to cancel my plans, ignored all my emails for more than three days. Still waiting for a response.

Raised my rates by double without notifying me. Why? I have had 0 claims. Their reasoning was because the cost of care in my area went up. Did it go up almost double overnight? Bogus. These guys are crooks.
