Long story short I was homeless last year and my dog got lost he was transported and rehomed at this location when I inform the director about this incident he clearly stated that my animal cannot be taken back my animal was stolen from me by my local city shelter and transported here where they have the option to say that my dog was not abandon or neglected he was cared and loved and missed and still is be careful what dogs you purchase they might belong to a home because it happened to me

Wait times can be lengthy, due to the amount of potential adopters waiting to see specific animals, but everything is handled well, and moves smoothly. We adopted a blind pit bull from there the other day, and he is awesome! They made sure they went over all the risks and made sure we knew what we were up against, instead of telling us what we wanted to hear to get him out the door. Great people doing a great job :) This is also a NO KILL SHELTER!! Find your new best friend there today!!

Last time I was looking to adopt a puppy and the staff said the meet time would be at least 45 minutes to an hour. After an hour has passed, they never notified me earlier that the animal I wanted was adopted already. Also, on my second visit, you have to wait at least 45 minutes to an hour just to meet a dog, even if the dog is waiting by the kennel. Other than that, I wish customer service were better and faster, but the staff seem to have good information on the adopted animals.

I LOVE the OHS it is the best place for animals to go if they do not have homes they take the best of care to all the animals at the shelter i think that it is great that they are a no KILL SHELTER and that before they let there pets get adopted they fix em up and make sure they are at least a little socialized with volunteers and other people at the shelter volunteering at OHS is they best Love you OHS keep up the good work on keeping the pets and the people happy. :)

Went to go adopt a dog on Saturday i was very happy with the Rottweiler we got. They said he tends to be aggressive and mean to other dogs but he is the sweetest thing in the world, very gentle giant. But.. When they say that the dog will include a microchip ID and licensing... yeah they lied and will end up charging you in the end. So if you adopt a dog for $100 be ready to spend an extra $50 on licensing $20 for microchip and $10 on one of there cheap made leashes.

My neighbor friend adopted a dog from their Second Chance program-all these dogs from CA we were told came in with Kennel Cough-during the meet and greet my neighbor was only told the dog had allergies. She adopted the dog. At the end of the adoption process THEN was told he has Kennel Cough. It is VERY contagious to other dogs. She now has a VERY sick dog. Dogs with kennel cough should NOT BE adopted out until they are well- shame on you OHS.

The staff are rude and arrogant. They were openly unprofessional and hostile. I have never met so many pontificating blowhards in love with the sounds of their own voices. These folks are detrimental to the cause of animal rights, because they are self-righteous, condescending extremists. If you want to add a horror story to your quest for adoption, this is the place to go. They terrified my four year-old and reduced my wife to tears.

Adopted an adorable cat from here, with a little help from the pressuring volunteer. We have never had a cat, and were really open about our situation. We have had the cat for a year and unfortunately have had a million issues with her. The information disclosed about the cat was super unhelpful, and unfortunately has made our lives with her a nightmare. Wish that they would gather proper information before placing a pet.

No kill shelter! Woo hoo! I believe OHS would have been cheaper to do the adoption through, but CAT made it much simpler for us when we went to Petsmart on a Saturday. My wife cannot search for her cat. She knew if she went to look for a kitten she WOULD walk out having adopted a kitten. That is what happened. However, we love OHS and any other no kill adoption location here in Portland.

Best organization ever! Life happens and I had to let my two dogs of 6-7 years, Trooper and Kira go. I went from a house to an apartment and had to make the tough choice. Long story short, they were able to rehome both dogs and were very helpful when I called for updates. The staff and thousands of volunteers made this a manageable part of my life! God bless you all!

Always make sure to donate money and unused pet items/products. The main reason I go is to donate in person. They keep dog kennels very clean and the set up of the whole building is great. Also, adopted pets make the BEST pets! Speaking from experience here! They love you even more cause a part of them will always know you rescued them with love!

My boyfriend and I have been on a journey to find a new member of our family. We came here and everyone was very helpful and friendly. We found a wonderful dog, and the adoption process went perfect. You can see that the staff here love their jobs and they treat the animals with so much love. This is a great place to go to adopt a new friend.

Although I did not adopt a cat from OHS at the end, I was considering multiple of their animals. The staff there thoroughly and honestly explained the behavior, symptoms, and reasons why or why I should not get a certain cat. They gave me lots of background information on choosing the correct cat, and I thank them for that.

I went in there to adopt a dog everything there said it was 1 year old, aproximately. He was a second chance dog. When i received his previous records it showed he was 3 years old. it was really unprofessional to trick adoptive parents to adopt an expensive dog like if was still a puppy.

500 for a puppy? A mutt, no less! Holy cow! What a racket, guess the board members want more lavish vacations. Third rate, tax write off "vet checks" not to mention how many animals die after being spayed/neutered here. This is without a doubt the most corrupt "shelter" in Oregon.

I had a great experience today with the staff at the OR Humane Society. They were very loving and caring to all the dogs there and all staff that I met we very knowledgeable too. I adopted a great dog from them and am very happy with my choice and the consultation from the staff.

I adopted a rabbit from OHS 7 months ago and found the process to be easy and comfortable. They allowed me to hold her in my lap and see how she handled it, and it was love at first sight. Now she is a happy house rabbit and rules over a 700 sq. ft. apartment. Thank you OHS.

This is not like it was when I was a kid . Always euthanizing animals after they were there for a certain length of time. They have a operating room and training room where they teach owners and their pets obedience classes as well as others training.

We went down with 4 or 5 dogs we wanted to see. We fell in love with the first one. Heather was great she helped us find our new family member and helped us after we adopted him with some medical questions. We will encourage people to adopt with them.

This is a dedicated, no kill animal agency. Animals are well cared for. Adoption fees can range from inexpensive to over a hundred dollars. Volunteers help you make a good choice and offer thoughtful advice. Prepared to be there several hours.

I HAD RESCUED 2-tiny KITTENS & WAS TOLD TO POST THEM ON CRAIGSLIST. THE HUMANE SOCIETY IN PORTLAND, OREGON COULD NOT ACCEPT THEM FOR 3-WEEKS. A LADY CALLED ME ABOUT THE KITTYS THE VERY NEXT DAY & TOOK BOTH HOME FOR HER 2-YOUNG DAUGHTERS.

This is one of the nicest animal shelters I have visited. Their animals are well kept and the staff are intimately knowledgeable on most of the animals being kept there. If you are looking for a pet, please check this place out first.

Adopted a 4 yr old Yorkie 7 months ago. Yeah the Humane Society has procedures and policies. Focus on the good. In 2014 they helped place and save 11,000 pets from being Euthanized. Our Yorkie is a 100% sweetheart.

Bringing unwanted pets from places where they would not live long to a nice place until they find a new home. Especially like that they have descriptions of the personality of the pets.

It took us almost 2 hours waiting to visit with a dog. We felt rushed and ended up not getting the dog. The adoption fees seem to be a bit high compared to other humane societies.

Please tell people that NO animals should be left outside in the cold. There should be punishments for those that do. They have a warm place so should your animals.

Why are dogs so expensive? Are you really about finding a home or making top dollar. A bit ridiculous. I was so bothered by this. Staff not that friendly.
