I am retracting a favorable review that I left for Guaranteed Comfort and Energy out of Collinsville IL . The owner is Jim Fleming. Jim is a very good salesman and knowledgeable about his trade. It is his business ethics that is at issue. Bottom Line is to be very careful if you are going to deal with this company. I had Jim come over to my house to give me a quote for a replacement outdated A/C unit that was having a hard time cooling my house. I agreed to a sweet talking man who sold me on a Trane Heat pump and a rebuild of my existing furnace at the cost of 7000.00 along with a bunch of promises that had to be worked out latter of which some he fixed and others he tried to break the bank on. Here is a list of what went on. First Day no show due to vehicle breaking down, I Lost a day of vacation to be there. Next day Installed unit in the rain, hmm big red flag. After install came the final inspection from JIM. He was not happy with the way the technicians installed a cold return air. He calls the installer and told them to come out the next day to correct. They did. A couple days later I noticed that I did not receive a new electrical disconnect as promised nor did I get a complete new A/C line set. Instead I got a mixture of new and old line set because they felt it better not to disturb the concrete in which the old lines went thru. After a complete loss of Freon and a resolder of the joint I was assured it would not leak again. They did replace the old disconnect with a new one. The reason for the old one was better left alone because of the rain. A couple months later the upstairs and the down stairs was off by 12 to 15 degrees. The new air return was going to fix that. No problem they came out again and put baffles in the duct work to balance out the house. This worked great in summer but come winter and the house is still unbalanced and to date is still that way. I gave up on this. Had a new 600.00 smart thermostat that needed new firmware but had no way to update it because it did not come with a 20.00 memory card. They gave me a new memory card no cost. A new high dollar smart blower motor that was replaced in the heater is running so fast that it is hard to hear TV. They determined it was bad and replaced it after pulling it out and in about 6 times. Now a year later it is making a new loud noise and that was going to cost me 800.00 for a replacement of the squirrel cage. For the money I spent it should have come as a replacement when they did the original install. Today I still wonder how it got out of balance. After all it was only pulled in and out about 6 times. Cost me 70.00 to hear about that. I told Jim no thanks. I bought a brand new one from York and replaced it myself in 30 minutes for a total cost of 79.00. While i was in there I noticed how the technicians ran the new wires from motor into a panel that eventually would have shorted out. I called and they did come out again and fixed it. I was told I would get a rebate for my electric bills for the next 12 months after 4 months I started to make calls and on the sixth month eventually they did get that straighten out. Now the straw that made me retract my great review. The heat pump dies in December 2014 it is 18 months old. A high pressure line explodes they come out and again I am bent over when I was told it would cost about 1100.00 to resolder a line and refill with Freon. I asked about how many hours we are talking about and was told between 2 and 3 hours. But I get a break and they will do it for 600. I am not going to pay them 200 or 300 an hour to fix a factory defect. I did get to pay another 70.00 for their time.

Guaranteed Comfort and Energy was one of three companies we invited to bid for the replacement of our 22-year old heat pump system. Jim came out and spent over two hours giving us a complete analysis of home’s energy needs. With advanced thermal imaging equipment he showed us where our home was leaking hot/cool air and wasting energy. He also evaluated our duct/air flow system and showed us how to improve efficiencies. The other two bidders we invited in simply gave us a “box replacement” solution. Jim provided several options to replace our heat pump and to improve the energy efficiency and overall comfort of our home. When it came time to install, Chris and his team (Brad and Allen) performed all work and completely met our expectations even when the job turned out to be more complicated than expected. They took all the time needed to reengineer our attic insulation system and our crawl space ducting and vapor barrier. They finished by installing a state-of-the-art heat pump and air handler with an electronic programmable thermostat. As they worked they brought all home HVAC related systems up to current code, delivering all improvements completely to Jim’s promises and completely meeting our expectations. While working, Chris and his team respected our home cleaned up thoroughly before they left. We would make an unqualified recommendation for Jim and the folks at Guaranteed Comfort and Energy to handle any HVAC problems expertly, professionally, and within cost and time expectations. We would not hesitate to use them again.

We have had numerous issues with our old heater and humidifier system and Jeramy has always been amazing in coming right over to fix it- finding the problem and getting the job done. He is extremely courteous and thoughtful- always calls to say hes on his way, wears shoe covers, etc. But, this last time he was unable to fix the heater (through no fault of his as he was there all day attempting it, just our old junky system). So, we had to get a brand new system and we opted for the 96% efficient system. Brad and Chris came out to install it the very next day, and not only was it up and running before mid-afternoon but got our house from 56 degrees to 68 in no time flat! It was amazing. Both Brad and Chris did an excellent job of keeping the house clean using roll-away rugs all throughout their paths, they explained everything to us, educated us on our new system and the thermostat, and went above and beyond and cleaned out our duct system for free while they were there! I cannot say enough good things about this company or their technicians.

I received a phone call from home on a Thursday afternoon with the news that we had no hot water. Our old propane water heater had bit the dust after 14 years of use. I called Jim that afternoon and asked him for a replacement recommendation. He spoke highly of and recommended a Navien Tankless Water Heater. After doing some research, I called him back Thursday evening and asked him to get me a price on a Navien system. He called me Friday morning with a quote, and said he could have it installed the following morning. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the courteous and rapid response! Chris arrived Saturday morning at 8am and our new system was completely installed and functional by lunchtime. We have been using our new tankless system for about 6 weeks now and I have been completely satisfied…no more complaints about running out of hot water!! Jim and his crew were courteous, professional and unbelievably clean (they even wear shoe covers when walking into your home!).

Guaranteed Comfort and Energy (great-service)…I must tell you a short story…My AC went down yesterday O/A noon-1pm…we called a company which we used in the past “In…” well, no name calling” Anyway, THEY stated “we will send someone out as soon as we can” this repetitive answer when on and on for several call back to this company. Finally, at 9:23pm we were finally notified that “they will be unable to make! And they may not be able to make it the next day. I was ^%$#& to put it politely…my entire day was wasted sitting here in the HOT house! Well, enough of Unrealizable Service… Anyway, At 9:35pm we called guaranteed comfort and energy. They Scheduled us with an appt, arrived on time the following day and Jeremy (company serviceman) repaired, explained and provided courteous service and Kathy (office dispatcher) called to provide us updates, changes etc. with our appt. The overall service of Guaranteed Comfort and Energy was…OUTSTANDING!!! A+

Jim and his entire team (Chris and Brad did our install) were a Godsend to our family! Our AC unit died during the hottest part of this summer. Not only did Jim come out promptly and help us assess our situation, but he also spent the time that was needed to help us understand our best options. We had a brand new system in our home in just a few days, and it is AMAZING! From the start, we were met with professionalism, courtesy, intelligence and understanding of our situation and our needs. Every dollar we spent was on what we needed and nothing else. Our home has never been as comfortable as it is now, and it would not be that way without Guaranteed Comfort and Energy. Our A/c went out without warning on the hottest day so far this year (temps around 95) and though we had previously called a few companies before to come do a check, none had bothered to even return our call. My husband called Guaranteed Comfort and they had someone coming out as soon as possible during a very busy day for them. THe gentleman came out about two hours later and knew immediately what the problem was. We found out a little later that our worker was actually the owner, who had come to fix our a/c himself because he did not know when another worker would be available. Very classy. In short, our a/c was back on within the hour and the owner had given us every discount possible. We are even enrolled in their care plan for the fall. Thank you Guaranteed Comfort!

Jim and his crew have completed several projects for me in the past, and the quality of their work has always exceeded my expectations. Recently, I had a different HVAC company check my A/C unit for spring mantenance (BIG MISTAKE!!). After the inspection, I was handed a $700 estimate for needed repairs. I called Guaranteed Comfort & Energy and Chris came out. Chris checked the unit and found that components had been intentionally disconnected by the previous company. Chris reconnected the components and completed a thorough check of the system free of charge, and everything worked fine. Thanks to the honesty and integrity of Jim, Chris and the other staff at GCE, I was spared the loss of $700 through fraudulent means.

Jim came out late around 10:00pm on a Sunday evening, I live in Benld Illinois which is a good 40 miles from him, When Jim arrived he got right down to business and let me know up front what everything would cost, and I needed a fan motor and a capacfton and jim made sure he changed the capacfton and the unit was cooling. Then he said he would have to come back the next day and bring the fan motor. Jim was very polite and he sent a co worker named Brandon to replace the fan motor and cleaned my unit and I was very pleased. I would recommend this buisness for any ac unit problems. Thanks again! Just wanted to thank Jim and his associate for helping with my A/C issues. I have used other local HVAC techs and I have never received service like I got from Jim and Guaranteed Comfort and Energy, Inc. I called Jim at 8:30am and he was at my door within the hour. Jim and his associate detected the problem within a few minutes and quickly resolved the issue. Jim was very detailed when explaining everything that was wrong with my A/C unit.
