I was facing a serious felony gun charge in DC… locked up and sitting in jail. My family had access to a specific database of attorneys with specific amount of experience, and one of those Attorneys was Jason Kalafat. The US Marshalls moved me into my own cell, and it was initially hard for Jason to find me in jail, but luckily Jason recognized one of the Marshalls, and was able to find me through that connection. After consulting with Jason in Jail, I felt that I had someone in the perfect position to assist me with my situation. I didn’t know a lot about gun violations in DC, and Jason not only educated me about what logically could happen, but there was a level of brutal honesty at what I was looking at. I really appreciated the honesty, He told me the basic law and how ridiculous it is the way these things get processed, but he had the ability to make a strong case on my behalf. I finally got released during my arraignment, and I knew that Jason was the right guy to take care of me. My parents really likes him, and I like him (still like him!), he has a positive manner about him. Jason was so calm about everything, and even though my parents sometimes bugged Jason to the extreme about updates … Jason never complained about it, and always helped out with information. Jason met with me after hours, before hours, during hours, … he knew my case was important and he always made time for me. I remember at one point I heard his kids in the background, but he would still call me for updates and let me know what was going on. It was just sad that I got to know someone with such great character under these really rough circumstances, because I would rather have met Jason at a local pub. Jason just seems like the kind of guy you always want to stay in touch with. Jason got me released from custody, made a great case in front of the judge, and how it was an obvious mistake… I never would intentionally be irresponsible with any firearm or equipment, and I did not deserve to have a felony firearms charge on my record. The Judge agreed … and reduced the charges… Heavily. This was all thanks for making the right decision to hire Jason Kalafat.

First time around I had a Court appointed attorney and the case was dismissed but later reopened. At the time the case was reopened I had a little more money in my pocket and decided to hire a private attorney. I did a search online and actually consulted a few criminal defense attorneys and finally spoke with attorney Jason Kalafat at the law office of Price Benowitz, LLP. After speaking with him I felt very comfortable with information he provided. Standard rates that I had been hearing were consistent but he was very competitive and flexible with what he offered. I decided to hire and I’m very happy he took my thoughts and request into consideration and did not settle. He was very communicative and was prepared along the way, he was always a professional. We were able to read that the government’s plea offer was not what we wanted and we actually managed to get the case dismissed with prejudice meaning that they could not re-file the charges. I definitely praise his work and it has been great to work with and would absolutely recommend him.
