Joy helped my wife and me to complete our Green Card process (EB2). We already had our ETA 9089 certified with the help of another lawyer but when it came to status change, it was more complicated due to some factors and we were afraid that he cannot handle it. One of the reasons being that he is very careless and unprofessional. We always had to try our best to study the whole Green Card process and review all the forms he prepared ourselves to notify him about hundreds of mistakes. We got really lucky to still have the ETA approved by his work but we decided to stop leaving it to chance by looking for a new lawyer. We searched online and found that Joy is one of the highest rated immigrant lawyer in DC area. When we talked to our friends, we realize that one friend also consulted with Joy and she gave Joy a lot of compliments, so we decided to contact Joy. I called Joy first but couldn’t reach her. However she called me back within 30 minutes. She spent the next 30 minutes talking to me to understand our situation and gave me general advices regarding our case. And it was free! Impressed with how professional, knowledgeable and responsive she was, I asked her to officially consult on our case. We sent over all our documents but she was busy with some other cases at the time so she promised a time to give us feedbacks on our case after reviewing it. And she did as promised, very on time! Given the fact that our previous lawyer was able to get our ETA 9089 approved and Joy not knowing how unprofessional he was, she even suggested us that maybe we don’t need her help and just let him finish the process. That’s when we know Joy is a very work ethic oriented lawyer as well! Quickly we decided to have Joy take over our case. To summarize, Joy is: 1. Knowledgeable: Not only she is knowledgeable about the whole Green Card process but also about other visas/programs which we were involved in such as J1/J2, CBT, OPT, marriage at an embassy, etc. … 2. Professional: Joy is always on time, always keeps promises and lets us know in advance if she out of office. She also always follows up to stay on top of everything. 3. Very responsive and effective in communication: Over the course of 7 months, we wrote almost 200 emails back and forth (!). Joy usually responds within 30 minutes and if it’s rush, 5 minutes. She’ll address all our questions in the very next email. 4. Diligent and meticulous: Most forms that Joy prepared had no mistakes. All we have to do is that if we have some concerns here and there we would talk to her to see if adjustments need to be made. 5. A great planner: Joy always has everything ready for our next step. From when USCIS transferred our application to NVC for visa processing and notified us, it just took us another week to submit all the papers to NVC. Preparation for this already took place 6 weeks prior! Time was sensitive to us, so we really appreciate that Joy can help us to save a lot of time by planning ahead! We asked Joy to take over in January and now it’s July, here we are with our Green Cards! The process went so smoothly and quickly that we cannot be happier with Joy. We are just really lucky that we found Joy. And also thanks a lot to all the accurate reviews that we found online on Google, LinkedIn, Yelp and Avvo. We will post this review on all those sites hoping someday it will help others just like it did help us.

Amy Novick was the only Lawyer I could have a regular conversation over the phone! I work at the World Bank Group, and thus my whole family holds a G4 Visa. My three children had met the 7.5 years required for them to apply for a Green Card, so I started to ask colleagues for Immigration Lawyers. In the WBG intranet page there is a list with a dozen of possible options. I called and/or emailed at least 7 of those names. Most of them had an assistant that knew nothing about the process and, at best could, book a consultation appointment within a week. Others had answering machines. Amy was the only one that picked-up her phone the first time I called, kindly responded all my questions in my first phone call with her, and showed real interest in me and my family as clients. She explained what we were responsible for, what she would do, how long was the whole process likely to take, how much we had to pay the US Immigration Services, and how much were her fees. A week after we spoke over the phone, we were signing a service contract, she accompanied by email the whole process, confirming we were going to the appointments we needed to go to, biometrics, etc, and after no more than two months, in what for us was a seamless straight forward process, my three kids got their green cards in the mail. Some of the other lawyers responded latter, but to be quite honest, they made me feel that they would be doing me a favor and/or they could not be bothered, thus had me talk with their assistants. Amy was the only one that had a service oriented attitude, heard what I was asking, and provided knowledgeable straight forwards responses. Price-wise they all charge more or less the same, but kind-quality service has no price. I recommend Amy Novak to anyone.

I highly recommend Joy Alegria Haynes as a lawyer / attorney for U.S. same-sex immigration and the ‘green card’ process in the states of Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. After inquiring about same-sex immigration (via email) with several attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area, my husband and I were most impressed with Joy’s prompt, professional and succinct reply. Her fees are extremely reasonable. She delivered on all aspects of the immigration process. Throughout the entire process, our emails to Joy were always answered the same business day, usually within a couple of hours. There is a lot of waiting for immigration officials to process various aspects of one’s green card application, so having a reliable and diligent lawyer was very comforting. Joy is extremely well-organized and efficient. Having an outside, objective professional involved in a process that can be emotional, given its importance, was critical to achieving a happy outcome. Joy brought us tremendous peace-of-mind. Nowhere was this more important than when we were preparing for the interview. I was nervous about the interview, but as with all steps, Joy went over the process with us and ensured that we had all our documentation in order. Also for my peace-of-mind, we had Joy attend our interview. The interview went extremely well because of the prep that we had done with Joy. If you are seeking legal representation in your same-sex immigration application, Joy Alegria Haynes is a dedicated, knowledgeable and kind-hearted professional. Glen Moulton

Joy Haynes was recommended to us by dear friends, who had been in a very similar immigration situation. We are a lesbian bi-national couple, that was in need of a Green Card for the foreign partner, to allow her a life with her wife in the United States. From day one on of our process, Joy was very helpful, when it came to answering all of our questions. Though our contact with her was 100% online, she was always available and quick to answer questions through emails, give us guidance and when required, she would talk to us via Skype in preparation of all our legal steps. The long distance between Miami and Washington, DC was no problem at all. We felt we were in good and reliable hands, which was important to us. Thanks to her unbiased and positive attitude and her capable staff members (Raisa, Rina), our worries and anxieties over the whole process got done away with and replaced by optimism and peace of mind, which was a big deal, as everybody knows, who has "been there". We highly recommend Joy Haynes and Haynes Novick Immigration Law Firm, if you are in need of a lawyer - especially for LGBT matters. We felt extremely well-represented by her and will definitely work with her again, when the time comes. Thank you again, Joy & Staff

At the referral of friends, Joy Haynes of Haynes-Novick Immigration provided invaluable help in steering us through a permanent residence application on the basis of a same-sex marriage. It was a pleasure to have worked with her over the course of nearly a year, from her initial consultation to outline our immigration options, through to our marriage and subsequent petition for alien relative and adjustment of status application, and finally to our marriage interview at U.S.C.I.S. and conditional permanent residence status. From the start, Joy was exhibited the sincere interest, expertise, competence, and unhurried thorughness that prepared us for what might follow and for a timeline with some built-in uncertainties. We were put at ease in a sometimes unnerving process knowing that we had Joy as our attorney, and never felt that we enjoyed anything less than her full (and immediate) attention at every step. We are happy to recommend Joy Haynes for her professionalism, knowledge and experience, and genuine care and interest she takes with her clients.

I was referred to Haynes Novick Immigration through a client of mine. I was looking at starting the Green Card process through employment for both myself and my wife. After my first meeting with Jim and Joy, I knew that this law firm was going to everything to help me out. It took sometime to convince my work (no fault of Joy and her team) about sponsoring my application. Once I got all the approvals sorted out, Joy and her team went to action. Preparing documents, asking questions and making sure that everything was perfect. Whenever I had a question, no matter how ridiculous it was, I got an answer immediately. We predicted that our case would take a decent amount of time, however by diligent work from Joy we got our Green Card in record time (From start to finish, 1 year). I cannot thank Joy enough for how much she has helped both my wife and I, if you are looking for an immigration lawyer who is entirely on your side and will fight for you every step of the way - look no further.

Amy Novick is an exemplary immigration attorney. She assisted my family and I with moving from L1 / L2 visas to Permanent Resident Status (Green Card). Throughout the process, Amy was thorough, calm, extremely efficient, reassuring and personable. Her knowledge and experience are second to none, and her patience for my endless questions was very much appreciated. She is also super-responsive. Every email was answered almost immediately, and Amy did a great job of allaying any concerns and worries, without making any promises or creating any false expectations as to the certainty of the outcome. I could not have asked for any more, and would wholeheartedly recommend Amy to anyone requiring an immigration attorney. I have a number of colleagues who have also used Amy, and the praise for her is unanimous. She is simply the best there is.

If you are seeking a same-sex immigration attorney / lawyer for the green card process in Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C., I wholeheartedly recommend Joy Alegria Haynes. Joy is extremely fair and transparent with pricing; there are no surprise fees. She was very responsive to our questions, and no question was too small. Joy understood the challenges of the process, and was a nice blend of compassion and skill. She is very conscientious, kind-hearted, professional, empathetic and very knowledgeable. Joy is dedicated to working with the LGBT community on immigration issues. It was a pleasure working with Joy.

My husband and I highly recommend Joy as an immigration attorney. We applied for change of status in June 2015 and my husband received his green card within the predicted timeframe. She made the experience completely easy and stress-free. Even though we live in New York, all the paperwork was conveniently handled by email and all meetings were conducted via Skype. She thoroughly explained every step of the process and promptly replied to any questions or concerns we had. It was a smooth, flawless experience and we are very pleased with the outcome.

Joy and her team were an absolute delight to work with as we navigated the process of adjusting status due to our same-sex marriage. From our intial meeting, to the moment DOMA was struck down, to the day my husband got his green card, she was our cheerleader and champion. We never felt alone and could not have asked for more support or encouragement, or better guidance in navigating the minefield of immigration. I encourage anyone in a bi-national relationship, whether LGBT or not, to contact Joy for help in the immigration process.

I have never met a lawyer in any discipline as helpful, competent and, most importantly, warm as Joy. Working with her is more like having a super-smart friend at your side than having a cold professional who may or may not actually care. The entire firm is conscientious and low-pressure. Cannot recommend this firm enough (and I do, to all my friends who need the representation!)

Joy Haynes and Leo Santana of Haynes Novick Immigration did a very good job with my case.It was time sensitive and needed a different strategy because of updated rules and regulations. They were prompt and professional at all times but still ensured to make rapport with their client.
