We spent a week in the park and spent one night in Mills Creek Campground in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park it is nice campground with Park Ranger led programs showers and flush toilets. The rest of our stay we camped Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park Campground, the spaces are large and the modern facilities are in good repair. The Smith river runs along the campground and offers clear clean waters to play in, fish. a seasonal bridge leads to the Stout Grove and Mills Creek trail. We traveled from end to end. At the south end we hiked Fern Canyon in Prairie Creek State Park it is short hike down a fern covered vertical walled canyon with a creek flowing through it. Saw a bull elk walking the Gold Bluffs beach. Drove up 1200 feet in elevation to Lady Bird Johnson Trail and walked about a mile and saw great stands redwoods and a bit of history. The park is awesome for all ages. The Park Rangers are great resources and easy to find in all the Redwood Parks and most are fun people.

Back in 2010 we arrived at the Stout Grove on July 4th Weekend to discover the park closed to visitors. We assumed it was due to the holiday and the desire to keep the park safe from activities related to the 4th of July. This past week, August 2014, we made a road trip starting from Seaside Oregon down the Pacific Coast and spent a few hours visiting the Stout Grove. There is really only one word - spectacular. It was worth the wait and worth the effort. The drive up Howland Rd from Crescent City is like a journey through an ancient land. The trees line the road and seem to become more dense and more enormous with each corner. When we arrived at the end of the road we found a parking spot and when for a walk through the Stout Grove. The environment and trees are amazing. Words dot not prepare your mind for the vision your eyes will deliver.

Such a wonderful park! If you are coming to visit, I think the place that you have to go to, regardless of the time commitment, is the Tall Tree Grove trail. This is deep in the middle of the national park, and requires a permit to enter. You will need to enter a combination for the lock at the gate to be able to drive down the 6.5 mile road to the trailhead. There is no fee. You can walk 1.5 miles down to the start of the Tall Tree Grove loop trail which is an additional 1 mile. The Redwood Creek trail connects to the Tall Tree Grove loop, and you can add many more miles to your hike. Some of the most awe-inspiring nature scenery that I have ever seen.

Beautiful. Excellent help from the Park rangers, top notch park service division! If you want to do it right, do a back country permit but be prepared if you camp past the tall trees grove, if you are off season you will have to cross a creek by foot, on season they have a bridge. It was definitely an experience. They have bear boxes at some of the back country sites so you dont need to hang packs. Waking up and being a mile away from the tall trees grove was magical. The hike back up from tall trees grove is switch back and trail and could be strenuous if you have a heavy pack.

These collection of parks protect the tallest trees in the world and is a bucket-list trip. We opted to go bicycle-packing through the immense giants that are the redwoods, imagining we were following the footsteps of a dinosaur all the way to the coast where we camped one dreamy night on the beach before riding back (uphill) with the company of an elk herd. Recommend walking through the hidden paradise of fanciful Fern Canyon where you navigate up a narrow gorge of small foot bridges spanning a stream bordered by moss and fern wallpapered walls.

I enjoyed staying at Prairie Creek Campground in Redwood Park. This area of Redwood Park has many trails and scenic drives through the mighty Redwoods, in the hills and along the coast. The park looks very Jurassic. The elk are habituated to people and 8-10 bulls hung around the campground most of the time. Trees of Mystery tourist stop is about 10 miles to the north and is worth seeing and riding the tram. Closest town is Orick. Friendly people and you can get ice and important supplies like beer, whiskey and hotdogs at the trading post.

One of the most beautiful and amazing places on earth. Please take the time to visit. Anyone who visits will instantly understand why these kind of places are so important and important to protect. The fog is invigorating. The tallest trees in the world are humbling. The biomass is massive. The woods are fully fernished. The redwood sorrels go to sleep at dusk and wake up at dawn. Please stay on trails as redwood sorrels are easily killed by being stepped on. Some trees are over 2,500 years old, please respect your elders.

Be warned. While this park covers an ecosystem unique on this planet and has stunning views and amazing trees, it is not a "conventional" national park experience. There is no gate, no formal entrance, or most of the amenities you might be used to from Yosemite, Yellowstone or similar. Instead, you are driving thru the park for 40-50 miles while on 101. You can be in the park and not even know it. For a more conventional experience, visit the state parks like Humboldt or drive the Avenue of the Giants.

This national park has to be one of my favorites. As soon as you get out of the car, the whiff of trees relaxes you. They have so many animals. Slugs, worms, sometimes deer, and more! Everything and everyone is very welcoming. I learned that the rings of a tree tell how old they are! Once you start hiking, there are always new surprises. They have an amphitheater, picnic tables, and classes. I love this national park and I am glad that these beautiful trees are being preserved.

I really feel the Redwoods are sacred with only 133,000 acres left from logging 2 million acres. The Redwoods were here before Christ was born. Beneath the canopy it is cool and shady to hike. Amazing footbridges cross creeks from Smith River. The trails are well maintained for safety. One might find Frogs, rare birds, Bullet Ants, Unusual Butterflies. Like no other rainforest in the world. This is not like squirrels at the Park. Elk, deer, bears and cougars call this first.

This place is absolutely one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Its the remnants of an old-growth forest that ended from the southern border of Oregon down through the northern coast of California, and southward even to Big Sur. A 1899 National Geographic article noted that just a few hundred years back, the Redwoods extended as far as Los Angeles. If you are a parent, please take your children here. It is something that one must experience at least once in their life.

There is nothing more beautiful than the Redwoods of California. The way they pierce the sky seemingly impossibly to see the tops. If they could talk...the things they would have to say. Ad an avid National Parks traveller, I would have to say that the Redwoods National park is by far one of most beautiful places in the US. I would highly recommend visiting these stately trees and the surrounding area...you will not be disappointed!

The park was beautiful, the weather was very nice. The rangers at the information center were very helpful. The Tall Tree Groves hike was amazingly quite. I have never experienced such quite before. The trail itself was nice and well defined, however the hike back up carrying a three old felt impossible, had to stop on a few of the benches on the way back and while the trees are amazing, I am not sure it was "worth" the hike.

We took a drive all the way up and back down Bald Hills Road. It had some of the most beautiful views. The road winds all the way through the park along the top of a mountain range. There were a couple observation areas with interesting information on the history of the area. Be aware that the roads off of Bald Hills Road are mostly undrivable trails and private roads. Google Maps considers most of them drivable.

Redwood Park Fern Canyon is a very original ecology of the valley, on both sides of the mountain wall covered with various values of the vertical down, you can see the stream from the cliffs quietly flowing to the ground. Is a good place to walk, do not worry about the sun drying.

Most people know Redwood as home to the tallest trees on Earth. The parks also protect vast prairies, oak woodlands, wild riverways, and nearly 40 miles of rugged coastline. For thousands of years people have lived in this verdant landscape. Together, the National Park Service and California State Parks manage these lands for the inspiration, enjoyment, and education of all.

Redwood National Park is the natural heritage of the United Nations. Towering trees inside we humans seem to become very small, can not help but lament the Seven Wonders of nature really powerful, we come to California to play, then the interest must not be missed!

Wow! What an amazing place. I was truly in awe... Really enjoyed spending time with our family and walking through the beautiful quaint little pathways through the redwood trees. Felt like you were in a fairy tale amongst those giant trees. The elk were cool to see. Recommend getting off the main highway and driving the little scenic road at Newton through the redwoods.

Great place to get some un-civilized time with one of natures oldest remnants of a time way before we were here. The forest is dangerous however so that must be taken into account before traveling here. I would suggest you have some strong pepper spray available in case you come across bears or the likes and happen to have an aggressive encounter.

Read this review from the perspective of bike tourists. The campground drops cyclists 800 vertical feet down dangerously shoddy roads and delivers you to a small camp nested in a swamp of mosquitoes. There were thousands! Brace yourself for showering in the company of spiders and bring your own soap and towel for the bathroom.

Had a great time hiking around Lost Man Creek and on the Tall Trees Trail. We ended up doing some bushwhacking and had a great adventure navigating the forest. The scale of the fallen logs and lushness of the ferns and forest is fantastic. There were very few people in the park, which made it feel very quiet and serene.

The Redwoods are amazing! Theu make trees here in Missouri look like baby trees. All the little touisty things were really cool and all the folks running them were great! The roads are windy and curvy so be prepared to take your time and lots of landslides when we were there. Overall it was wonderful, we will be back!

Aside from the obvious (huge trees that will blow your mind) this park is unusually quiet, and in a good way. Coming from Utah, I am used to the bustle of an Arches NP and even Yellowstone NP with the hundreds of busloads of people. Not at the Redwoods. Beautiful, peaceful and fantastic temps for camping in the summer.

This is so cool. To see these massive trees. I would definitely stop by if your driving from California to Oregon. It will take at lease half a day to drive through it all and they allow you places where you can stop and pull over and get out to better check out the views. The air is so fresh and it is so awesome.

The height of the trees was beyond my imagination. The majestic plant life and the serene sound of running water made for an excellent hike. However, the tree my parents drove through is not NEARLY large enough to drive a big rig through. DO NOT attempt to do that, or you will get kicked out of the park. Like me.

We went to fern canyon and gold bluffs beach. Walking through the canyon was a great day experience. After going to the canyon we walked over to the beach. On our way to the beach we saw a herd of wild elk grazing. The beach itself is nice but the water is too cold to swim in without a wet suit.

The park is several small disjointed parks managed jointly by the California state parks and national parks, which makes it a bit confusing and a different experience from some of the bigger national parks. The trees were beautiful and we went on several nice hikes through the old growth forests.
