I have been with the UICCU for 30 years. Sure no financial institution is perfect, but my overall experience is positive with this credit union. Remember credit unions are non-profit organizations and they need our support. Their fees are much less than for-profit banks and if they make a profit, it will go back to the members. Also, remember they need to stay in the black like any other business. So they have operational costs that they have to cover. A lot of the problems cited by other reviewers are caused by extraneous circumstance such as hacking that took place at Target few months ago which resulted in restriction on credit/debit card use and the resulting work load on all financial institutions which had to issue new credit/debit cards to a bunch of people all at once.

The other review is completely wrong. When I travel my card works every where. When an out of network ATM charges a fee, UICCU refunds that money at the end of the month. Let me repeat that. THEY PAY FOR OTHER BANKS ATM FEES. I go to Canada and use my card as a Visa credit card and I never get charged a fee. My friends who use big nation wide banks get charged a heafty fee every time. I also use my card to withdraw Canadian currancy from ATMs and I am never charged a fee. Honestly, I worry that all of this is actually too good to be true. I worry that someone at UICCU will read this review and say, "Hey, we need change all this stuff and become more like all the other banks ."

Take you and a buddy and earn 50 bucks each just for switching, then earn 2.5% in checking. Best credit union in the Iowa City area hands down. Customer service is also excellent.

Never mind their customer service...I spent over 20 minutes waiting for phone assistance, and no one ever took my call. Literally impossible to contact via telephone.
