This service call began with a call into the 800 number to speak with a representative. I have had experiences with both online service reporting and calling in, and I enjoy speaking with a representative. The website is just as easy to place the ticket from, I have also used my mobile device to place a service call! I scheduled a repair for my A/C unit which stopped blowing cold air. The representative was very friendly and the call took less than 5 minutes to complete. The next day I had a call from the contractor who was to complete my service. While they could not visit me for an additional day, they were able to compliment my busy schedule. The tech arrive earlier than expected, and he called me first to verify that this was ok. The tech was very thorough and brought tools with him to the unit, he did not have to make laborsome trips back and forth to troubleshoot. He then presented the unfortunate news to me that my compressor was out and he would need to report this to AHS for review and approval. AHS contacted me within 48 hours to let me know that this was approved and parts were ordered. Also explained a few additional charges that I was responsible in this repair. While it is great having a warranty, I understand the need to pick up certain charges that were outlined clearly in the contract. The tech was scheduled to come out on the following Friday but once again adjusted their schedule to come out a day early on a Thursday to get our air working sooner. The technician worked it out a day earlier (Wednesday) to compliment my schedule. A different technician arrived to install, which showed me that they truly were interested in our issue and routed the next available technician to arrive for the install. He was precisely on time and began working right away after notifying me of his arrival. It took right about an hour and a half to replace the compressor and test. He was very thorough and even removed his shoes to go upstairs and check the airflow in the vents. I was very pleased at the ease of placing the order and the contractor that was chosen. This would be a company I would use with or without the AHS warranty in place, but for times like this, I was extremely glad to have this warranty with AHS in place.

I contacted American Home Shield in early may regarding my washing machine because it would not spin unless the lid was opened and then shut again. A contractor came out on 6 different occasions and replaced everything except for the timer. At that point, the amount of money that they had put into the washer was around $700. They then contacted AHS and advised that it was their opinion that the washer should be replaced. A week went by and I did not hear anything so I contacted AHS and they advised that they were getting a second opinion and that the company would be contacting me within 24 hours to schedule a time to come out. Another week went by with no contact so I contacted AHS and they advised they had been trying to reach me but on a different number that we do not have anymore and advised them on several occasions and they had no problem contacting us any other times on the correct numbers. At this point it has been almost 3 months and the washer will not do anything now and the second opinion contractor advised that everything had been replaced and it was his opinion that it needed to be replaced. Today I contacted AHS and they proceeded to tell me that they are getting another opinion. This will be the third opinion and everything but the outer cover has been replaced. When will it stop? We have had AHS for 5 or 6 years now and only used them once to have refrigerant put in our unit so there was no issue with that. Now since having a major issue, the experience was AWFUL!! I would not recommend AHS to anyone!! An issue that was first reported in May 2016 is still not been fixed on 7/27/2016.

Not impressed so far. AC broke on Sunday, May 21st. I contacted American Home Shield on Monday the 22nd. A technician was sent out on the 25th and he noted that it would likely take 5 business days to get another evaporator coil installed. I was contacted on the 30th and told that their preferred vendor had tacked on an additional 400 dollars worth of extras that they had not told me about. When I contacted the vendor, Myers AC, they noted that American Home Shield required them to add the extras on but did not cover them. they also noted that they covered $10.00 per pound for Freon and that the vendor was going to charge me $90.00 per pound and was going to need 8 lbs for this repair. So there is another $640.00 coming out of my pocket for this repair. On the call she asked me if I would like to explore the option of having the cash for the repair sent to me instead of using Myers. I said that I would and when I had not heard back for a day I contacted them again and they noted that it would be 3 days before they got back to me. They are not in a hurry, have plans in place to limit your coverage and reduce their exposure, and overall appear to be making very little effort to get my AC back up and running.

Horrible customer service and a just a plain evil company. They don’t honor the material terms of your contract with them and they will do virtually anything to get out of paying money for the services or repairs that they owe you. The customer support line is horrible, literally every time we’ve had to call we’ve had to wait for over half an hour, and when we do get through the representatives are useless and incapable of answering basic questions or completing basic tasks. The online website is just as useless and even the basic and advertised features such as canceling a service visit don’t work. Just avoid this company at all costs – it’s literally a scam. We’ve paid over $5,000 in annual contracts and haven’t seen a penny back from it in repairs. Literally not a cent. Every time we have someone come out, AHS always finds a way to claim that the item or repair isn’t covered, despite it being clearly and objectively covered in the material, legally binding contract that we’re paying for. Avoid them! Often times your local utilities company will offer similar ‘warranties’ on home appliances and is less of a scam and a better value.

On very rare occasions, I have saved using AHS but those are few and far between in the 16 years I have been with them. My conclusion is it has simply not been worth it. If you plan to use these guys you should know a few things. For example if you AC goes down it can be 2+ weeks to get it repaired. If your water heater is dead you better get used to cold showers for a good number of days like I did. The other things I did not like about the contract you only get a max of 1500 dollars of coverage on a HVAC system which is a tiny amount for that type system in my opinion and the contract limits your legal options if you don’t like how they have done things. They are great at throwing a bunch of red tape at you that you have to wade through instead of treating customers nicely they treat them like an annoyance in my opinion. They have always done what they said but the took just as long as they pleased to do so. So I will not be a returning customer for a 17th year.

We requested AC repair on June 17th (Wednesday) and no one has been scheduled to repair it to date. I am writing this on Friday night (June 19th) and we have yet to receive an appointment time from a vendor! From the looks of it, we will have to wait until next week. The entire family, including an infant have been displaced from the bedrooms on the 2nd floor because it is so unbearably hot. Such poor level of service is unacceptable and AHS must locate additional vendors to cover peak seasons in AC and heating repairs. During the numerous calls to AHS, we were told that AC repair companies are very busy in the summer and we are in a queue to be scheduled. Of course, AC repairs are in high demand in the summer! Oh, I forgot to mention that we are in Georgia and the temps outside are pushing 90(F). We have been loyal customers of AHS for several years and have policies on multiple properties. This is extremely disappointing.

Waste of money. They are fraudulent at best. I had them for over 8 years so when my AC or heater went out they would replace it. Well it was 20 years old. They said it was a coil. They would replace for $584 but I would be responsible for up to 10 lbs of coolant to the tune of $1000. What a joke. Also the coil itself would have been at least $1500. Per the independent estimates that I had but they said they get a discount. So long story short. I paid $4000 for a new AC and heater which they should have paid for and I got $584 reimbursed. I canceled immediately and will never go back to them. The advertisements on tv make me sick that they cover AC. Such a joke. Under no circumstances should you go with AHS. Also they contact with the worst in the field. You will be waiting for days to get something repaired. Sometimes weeks.

Terrible company. REGFRETFUL AND DISAPPOINTING! A contractor came to fix my fridge on Jan 20, took a small part that needed to be fixed, and now it is Feb 28 and nothing has happened. How could one live without a fridge for 39 days (and counting)? I’ve called MANY times the AHM and the contractor and each one blaming the other one. Their customer service is a joke and don’t EVER count on what they say. They keep telling me that there has been a “miscommunication” between the AMS and the contractor. How could it be a miscommunication after several calls (at least 6 calls) that I made? I switched from the Fidelity to this company thinking that they are a better company, but I guess I’m going back to Fidelity. They were a little more expensive but at least they would get things done fast.

I called on Feb 20 for a dishwasher repair. The part (arm) is on back order until sometime (?) in May. The customer service department not only did not notify me of the delay (my frustrated tenant did), they did not even have my file noted...I had to fill them in providing the information from the vendor and then they had to check my information. This is my first experience with AHS...I am not pleased. I have two contracts with them and feel like cancelling both. It appears to be acceptable to AHS to go for over two months plus (IF the part arrives in May) without a working appliance. No problem resolution skills, poor customer satisfaction. It took 4 phone calls with wait times of almost an hour on the last. Cannot even get someone on the Chat site without waiting... One star!

This company has to be the worse home warranty company. They put you on hold and never come back to the phone, they send out the worse contractors who never resolve the issue but still expect you to pay the service fee. The contractors they use are unprofessional. In addition, I have no idea what they cover because nothing that you really need fixing is ever covered under the warranty according to them. You pay $40 a month plus a $75 service fee for them to send someone out to do patch work that last maybe a month, two at the most and in two instances made the problem worse. You are better off calling companies directly to do the repair. Most of the time you come out spending less and you get to choose your technician. I do not recommend this company!

As a widow I maintained Sears home warranties on all of my major appliances for many years. My switch to AHS was after a letter received which indicated the cost would be much less than Sears. Unfortunately, very soon after the policy was initiated my A/C went out and I had to submit a claim. Their lack of response in repairing the unit prompted me to write letters for assistance. After almost a month the unit was repaired. I incurred in excess of $2500 In hotel room charges. I made what I thought was a simple request: “How long is AHS allowed to make the insured wait to complete a repair?” To date I have never received an answer to my question. I will not renew my policy as they appear not to care about the customer.
