False promises, lost case, wasted money and time. Poor communication, negative experience. Stay away! Last December I got speeding ticket in Tulare county for driving 81 mph, CVC 22349a. Living in the Bay Area I couldn’t appear in the court, so I decided to hire a lawyer. I called mr Martens to discuss the case, he assured me that the possible outcome for this case will be either dismiss or charges will be reduced to non moving violation (meaning no points on record). Agreed on $250 price as there is not so much of a choice in Visalia. Further communication was pretty bad, Martens Law firm uses 3rd party call center (intake specialist) that is taking the call and can’t answer any of your questions. In case you need to talk to attorney you can wait for couple days to receive a call back or response to your email. So initially Martens firm tried trial by written declaration, which was successfully lost. Then trial de novo was scheduled and the day before the trial I got a call from mr Martens assistant to find out what I want to do, proceed to trial or negotiate. So we agreed that mr Martens negotiate first and then proceed to trial if negotiation is unsuccessful. Somehow, mr Martens’ assistant, instead of himself, ended up representing me in the court. Officer showed up on that day, so she (assistant) negotiated with the officer and agreed to reduce the charge, however judge was not agreed on that. So instead of withdrawing the plea and proceeding to trial (cross examination), assistant accepted the charge and I ended up with guilty verdict the same as I could accept myself in the very beginning when I received the ticket first, the fine, court fee and a point on my license. When I got a call from the firm, the assistant told me that they hoped that officer wouldn’t show up. Wow, great defense strategy for $250, right on! If you are about to hire this firm for fighting traffic ticket, better do it yourself if you can appear to the court or look for another attorney who will at least do something more then just sending his attorneys to the court to check if the officer is present.
