I have to give five stars for this visit. Granted, I did get to the parking lot at 715 a.m. so I could get in line. I was about 15th in line at that time. At 748 a.m. a nice lady came through the line giving forms and assigning letters to each request. This helped speed up our entry and 0800 when the doors opened. I was B004 and I was called in two minutes. Wendy, the lady that helped me was nice, had a smile on her face, an was very helpful and courteous. I also gave a smile, said good morning, and thanked her for her service. I was out of there in 2 minutes. It was the fastest time I have ever spent at the DMV... Granted things might have been different if I went there at 1100 a.m. but this morning was a five star morning and kudos to the people at the Santa Monica DMV for working hard to clear the never ending line of people that keep coming.

If you have seen MIB you know what I am talking about. First, the air is free of O2. This is a clue. Secondly the overhead fluorescent lighting reveals a faint greenish grey pigment on the faces of those who have worked there far too long. You will normally find one real human that smiles, but beware...it may be setting you up to tolerate the next line and waiting spell. Thirdly, you realize after an hour there that you probably have died already and that this is the technical meaning of the word purgatory. Other than that, you just wait to make it out to the Starbucks and put it all behind you!

Kind, Helpful, not crowded, I have failed two times in LA downtown. For the third time I have gone to Santa Monica. There are much less crowded than Downtown and the clerks are more helpful and nicer while there are fewer number of them there, especially officers for behind the wheel exam. For the exam, note that intersection there have red arrow for turn left and "do not block the intersection" signs. Also, there are some zebra lines for pedestrians and many speed limits (I saw a strange 45 mile one!) Generally, I suggest this DMV over Los Angeles downtown.

This D.M.V. rocks! I had a positive experience stemming from assistance with clerk, (didn’t get name). Very professional and super friendly was in and out within minutes (with a scheduled appointment, of course.) Plenty of parking and truly just an efficient operation with no hassle; the only negative was having to witness ill-mannered folks trying to boss everyone or cut in front of people because they’re in a rush.

Had no appointment and went at noon to exchange license plates. Short line, it moved fast (5 min in line with 6 people in front of me), and DMV staff taking our requests was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with each person I saw helped. Only delays I saw were caused by people who did not understand how to fill out a form or which documents they needed to provide for their particular situation.

Very Long waiting. Not Enough parking in and around. Workers Do Not answer any question. They seem you get the hell out here fast so they even do not listen you. This place used to be very good . Now is the rest of most Dmv places. Waiting including looking for parking eta 3 hours . 5 Years ago it was 20 minutes . I am not lying . I was amazed too. Now they seem they changed workers too.

I see a lot of bad comments of this dmv. To be honest I was there on July 25 to take my behind the wheel test.. I passed !! At first Waiting time to get the paperwork done was super quick maybe like 10 Mins? But I had to wait like 30-45 mins to take my test & drive around but besides that my experience was really good! A good place good staff &a pretty quick . My favorite dmv to go to !

Went to get my car inspected, i waited 30 min. And then waited 35 min to called, as I heard one of them employees weekend trip. He Got up and talked to another woman as I approached them to ask them a question, the woman put her in with another customer sign in my face. Besides being rude their customers service should be revised.

I could not believe that visiting the DMV can actually become a relatively pleasant experience. The people here are very friendly, and really try to help you and solve your problem. This is very nice and very rare, since most of my visits to official offices usually end with me being exhausted, and wish to never return again.

i went to the DMV with no appointment - obviously i must have lost my mind to go to the DMV without one. So i got there at 12:00 and got out at 2:40. Kind of expected...hence the the "average" rating. I figured almost 3 hours at the DMV is like sitting in LA traffic...

Highly recommend making an appointment coming to this location. Staff friendly and helpful, especially in the exam area. Of course, you have to follow no talking and no cell phone rule in the exam area.

They are friendly here. It is the least annoying DMV I have ever been to. They generally seem to care and the wait is not bad. Might be worth the drive if this is not your local one.
