I am an employer. I received a notice for a past employee filing for benefits. I called the number on the form as requested, it is disconnected. I called the 800# on the VEC website, it says to call back another time. I keep calling, same response - call back later. I get a phone message in the office that says XYZ person called & said she has been trying to reach you... so I pull phone records - nope, its not true. No calls from that number in the last 3 months. So I start calling again - same response - no way to leave a message - just a "call later" message. I get a fax from VEC - so I call the numbers on the fax - disconnected. I call the numbers from the prior message - I get a random voice mail, it does not identify the company or the name of the person, so I leave a generic message (since Im not sure if I have even called the VEC Im not going to leave personal info about a past employee) saying to call me back... what a terrible system! So many complaints of people just trying to get help. PS - your employers cant help either because they are using the same broken system. New leadership is needed in this place.

Years ago, my husband lost his job and had to file for unemployment. While seeking full-time employment, he registered with local county school districts as a substitute teacher and worked for whatever schools provided assignments. When he received a two week assignment (every day, all day) at one school, he was unavailable when another school called him. A month later, he received a letter from VEC indicating that he was in violation for refusing a job. He explained that he was working everyday and could not be at two schools, at the same time. He was told he was still in violation, and had to repay ALL of the money he had received. We appealed it twice and loss. The next appeal was to court in Richmond. If you travel to Richmond, it cost money and you cannot work and make money and could possibly lose again. Absolutely ridiculous. We are still paying that money back. Trusting God to right every wrong. That was pure evil and makes no sense. Giving one star is definitely more than what is deserving.

Ultimately horrible experience. I tried to utilize the internet to file an initial claim and I received the response that I was ineligible to file a new claim and to call the 800 number. When I called the 800 number, I was able to start the automated system by entering in the information. After I completed the information, the line transferred over. The recording continued to play music and it informed me that there was 3 calls ahead of me. As I waited approximately an hour waiting while music played , the line finally picked up and hung up. Totally awful customer service. Since the internet is not allowing people to file an initial claim online and the telephone service continues to hang up on you, what are other options to file the initial claim.

So I went to the VEC for help finding a job. Ive really been struggling. Theyve been downsized ever since the unemployment rate has dropped. I would argue not much has changed locally thou. However their building has been shut down and theyre temporarily downtown. The lady there acted like I had stepped into HER office. She told me everything I need is online, which is just not true. I had to ask her what it is she does if she and the VEC is no longer providing a public service. She took offense and said she could right the websites name down if im confused??? Yea im confused, im confused why peoples hard earned money pays this

It is ridiculous that they do not pay you for benefits you earned when you have worked your entire life. It is not my fault my company lays me off and decides to set up operations overseas and with cheaper labor. You are told to go online and if you do not have a computer, try your call later. I have attempted to call last week and now this morning because I cannot get information I need online. All I can say is thank heavens we have a new administration coming up in January and maybe they can get a hold of you folks to account for what you are doing.

I received a call from a RESTRICTED number and was in class so naturally I did not answer. However, i received a voicemail to call the office for further information regarding my school information so I called back within 2 minutes (no exaggeration) and the line was busy. The lines are ALWAYS busy which is so frustrating. No matter what number I call it can never get through. You would think for a government office they would have the bandwidth to support the public. In the past 24 hours I have called over 20 times and the lines are always busy.

I have had to file for unemployment benefits in the past and no problem but I guess it was due to the fact it was a seasonal job. But this time I had to file because my former employer (Molly Maid/Stagg Cleaning) let me go because a team mate turned down her half of a $6 tip. Mr Stagg said I violated company policy by not sharing a tip. VEC rejected my claim for benefits because they say I DELIBERATELY viiolated company policy. How can deliberately violate a policy when your partner tells you to keep their half of a tip? Go figure!

I will never use Virginia Employment Commission ever again apparently the money that was Owed to me when I was doing unemployment was taken back by the state because I quit a job! They made me owe back all the money that they gave you I am going to leave the state and I will never ever in my life go back to Virginia Employment Commission I hate them that money was rightfully mine I put money into that by paying taxes when I work hard! they had no right to make me owe them!

Absolutely ridiculous phone system, is this 2017 or is it not? They have no hold queue for phone calls, it just says all operators are busy, please try your call again later and hangs up. Are you kidding? Set up a queue or better yet, a system where you can have operators call you back when its your turn. So they only way to get through is for people to repeatedly redial and hope they get through? Again, are we in 2017 or 1980? Join the 21st century please.

Waited for over an hour on hold to speak about an issue with my benefits. Provided the information necessary and paperwork. This was 4 weeks ago. Still waiting on a decision. I continue to file and meet all the requirements while looking for work, but without receiving payments for the past 4 weeks waiting on the reinstatement of benefits, my family and I are struggling. The office is understaffed and the processes and red tape involved are inefficient.

I had to fix an issue on my account, but that is next to impossible by calling during the day. So, I had called this morning right when the call center opened and I actually got through! The representative that helped me was Ms. Kristine. She was so kind and very helpful to me. She helped me fix the issue and also gave me helpful advice. Thank you Ms. Kristine for making my tough time just a little bit better!

VEC is the most corrupt and self-serving organization I have ever experienced in any state I have ever lived in. They have never been helpful, they have never allowed legitimate claims and they takes weeks to even tell you "no". I seriously doubt even their own employess are happy, I wonder what happens when they get laid off? VEC is a vampire sucking the life out of vulnerable people in their time of need..

The need negative stars for rating. The VA VEC would definitely rank highest in negative stars! Unbelievably horrible service. As an employer I need a VEC#, when I tried to request this online, it told me I already had a number. So now I am trying to get a hold of someone to find out how I have a VEC number and what that number is, and all I get it automated messages and no help what so ever.

These people have way too much power to ruin peoples life at the stroke of a key. Every person is guilty until proven otherwise. THE ATTENDANTS ARE VERY RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, HORRID PEOPLE. The customer service lady sat on the phone with me for what seemed forever trying to convince me that unemployment benefits were a handout, you know like welfare and I should be very thankful.

I called all day yesterday and most of today and can not get through. I started at the Richmond Center and then to the Main office on Main St. In the past they have been very good about helping well all of a sudden NO HELP TO BE FOUND. Very upset with the management at this time. No benefit check for me this week. But I guess I am doing better than most. So sad :(

After automated runaround, involving 4 different phone numbers, pushing buttons on my phone until my fingers hurt, I finally got a live person, Sandra. Sandra was very nice, which was a pleasant surprise. The news she gave me was not pleasant, my application for benefits was still being processed, two weeks after sending it in.

Would be 5 stars, however Im Being told my benefits are on hold due to 1st week being incomplete. However, when i file my claims, the automated system tells me i have no incomplete claims to report....really hope the confusion gets situated soon. Wasnt trying to complain about this, but this is becoming a financial inconvenience.

Called all numbers listed for help setting payroll account for my employees. Was absolutely impossible to use internet due to errors on their site. To top it off there is no one answering any of the numbers i call for assistance. All sites say they are open but no one answer for you. All my employees may not get paid

My claims for 2 weeks were claimed ineligible because the letter that I got said I was out of the country. When I spoke to one of their reps, I told her I was out of town and in California, not out of the country. I also told her that I was in contact with a couple of recruiters by phone even when I was out of town.

Completely agree. You can never ever get a hold of someone, and I filed has not received any single payment. The system locked me out, lets me change password, still cant login. This has to be taken seriously. It was not like this few years ago, got worse and worse.

Terrible unemployment company. They gave me an unemployment payment only to take it back a few weeks later. This place does not care about unemployed workers in Virginia. I hope no one else falls victim to this shady, disgrace of a company like I did.

You wait 25 minutes on hold, only to be rushed through the phone call. Even if you are trying to get your call volume down, the customer should never feel like they taking a number, no matter what. Work on your customer service!

If you lack people skills this is a great place to work. Quick to quote policy but when your call them out on it they pretend they have no idea what you are talking about.

Ghettoest people in the States work at this place. Very hard to find someone to speak with over the phone and if they answer they are just straight out blunt and vulgar.

I work all over the country and this state has been the worst. Their procedures, processing time, and lack of customer are difficult to say the least.
