I visited this weekend for the scenery and to also attend the Saturday Nature Discovery Walk. This was my first time visiting Congaree National Park and any swamp for that matter. Make sure to bring bug spray. On most of the board walk it is okay, as I was there early in the morning before 9:00 a.m. However, once you reach the back end of the boardwalk where it leads into the trail areas the mosquitos become atrocious and swarm in front of your face! There is a lot to take in and you could easily spend the entire day at this park. Toured the entire board walk and hiked the Bluff Trail. Definitely plan to go back soon to visit the Sandbar by the Congaree River off the River Trail. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone that is interested in nature and the outdoors!

This is one of the largest preserved tracts of land ( 26,000 + acres ) located within the contigious United States, situated alone SC Road 48 in Hopkins, SC. This Lower Richland Community jewel is home to champion trees, abundant wildlife including micro organisms, insects, birds and varies mammals. Several trails were carved thruout the park for visitors to capture vantage points of the preserved forest and wetlands where it is possible to view widlife. For instance, during my most recent visit, I observed a large Barred Owl perched on a tree limb. The information center is open daily. The center is a log wood structure inclusive of many exhibts describing the history and the natural beauty of the park.

I have been to many national parks and The Congaree is one of my favorites. Reason being is that its is easily accessible to all visitors and everyone will enjoy the features. You can go there for an hour and see a lot of beautiful sites as you can spend the day and get just the same and more. Canoeing through Cedar Creek is an Excellent experience. I think the Most important thing about our countries national parks is learning enough about its features and history before and during your exploration. This enables you to get the most out of it. The Congaree has a very interesting history besides it being one of a kind. ENJOY !!

Wonderful National Park! Had no idea it even existed until recently. Very underrated. The park is incredibly lush and green. There are a large number of hiking trails and a couple miles of boardwalks. We spent 3 hours hiking here and only covered about half the trails so there is a full day of hiking to be had. We are planning on doing some canoeing on the waters next time we go back! The park and area routinely floods over during certain times of the year. Please check in advance about flooding on the trails and the roads in the nearby area. You may need to adjust your route depending on which direction you are coming from.

BEAUTIFUL WALK and No bugs yet but I saw them skimming the water so I can only imagine how bad it may get. Amazing big trees growing in the swamps. My dog broke loose from me a scattered a herd of wild boar through the muck. One piglet got seperated from the group and I feared my dog would get it, BUT a huge boar charged towards the dog. The dog veered left, the hog retrieved the baby to the right, and all was well again. I hike with bear, moose, coyote and deer but forgot about the wildhogs.. I will be aware from now on. They are low and can hide better than coyotes.

Went on a 3 mile hike here for the first time. The paths were well kept and the scenery natural and beautiful. Seems to be that there were plenty of paths to explore next time we visit. The visitor center was also very nice, old but with plenty of character and history, regarding the parks founding. Seems like it could be heavy with mosquitos during the heat of summer. Great place to hike overall and will be visiting again in the future.

Congaree National Park in South Carolina protects a watery wonderland of old-growth forest, including some of the tallest trees in eastern North America. Travel by canoe or kayak through 15 miles of wilderness on the Cedar Creek Canoe Trail – be sure keep an eye out for fall colors and wildlife like river otter, birds and maybe even an alligator

Beautiful National Park, and well worth worth a visit. The boardwalk loop is very accessible and a nice walk. Grab a copy of the self-guided tour for interesting information and history of the park. The restrooms are very clean, and there is a water bottle filling station for extra convenience. The trails are well marked and kept.

Amazing trails, trees and wildlife! The visitor center was nicely kept and the bathrooms were well maintained. Summer is a good time to see the most as it floods sometime in the fall, but it is a little hot; fortunately the trees provide a canopy on most of the trails. Next on my list is exploring the park in a canoe.

Good small National Park, much different from other NPs. Lots of trails and dog friendly! Close to a city, so if you need something, you can always drive to the store. Beware of the seasons, we were here in October and there was so many big and small spiders and spider webs everywhere, including on the trails.

The Kingsnake trail is excellent wilderness backpacking in the middle of Columbia! The trail is not well maintained and has many downed trees and thick brush. This is great if you like a challenge but not what most day hikes are expecting. If you want a lighter hike for the family, stick to the main loop.

Hiking on a ridge through the forest. Have seen many lizards, otherwise not so much. however was not the best time of day.

Great national park. No entry fee. Bugs can be a problem in the summer, so come prepared or visit in early morning out of bug-season. Unique swamp and cypress trees offer amazing scenery for the hikes around this park. Came up on some wild boar suddenly but was very cool to see.

One of the best hidden gems in Columbia. I almost hesitate to write this review as I want the swamp to remain relatively unchanged. Great trails for hiking or you could walk around the boardwalk (that is unless there has been a recent hurricane or flood that damaged the area)

We had a blast!! The long board walk makes it easy to keep kids going where you want them to go but also gives them a feeling of freedom to explore. The Jr. Ranger program, which is free, is great and the kids all loved it. We loved every minute. DO NOT FORGET BUG SPRAY.

Take the boardwalk from the Visitor Center. Get there a map!!! The walk is 2.4 Miles. It is good for strollers and even wheelchairs. I can no longer walk very well and it took us 2 hours

Love this park! But we had previously only visited in winter months. Stay on the boardwalk on hot and humid days - Sims Trail was a miserable walk through tons of biting horse flies.

Nice boradwalks. Park staff friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. If planning to go, check water levels as some of the boardwalks get over run with water. Dog friendly trails.

Hidden treasure in central SC. The trails can be flooded at times. Call ahead if you have your heart set on a specific route. But the boardwalk is usually free of water.

Low traffic NP. Especially during the week. Even on the busiest weekends, only the boardwalk is crowded. Great place to go birding, kayaking, walking, etc. Free camping!

The only national park in SC, I think. A variety of trail lengths to suit any visitor. Raised boardwalks around swampy areas. Easy to park.
