Went on 8/27/16. Nice place to visit, as this was my 1st time going by car (used to only boat to warning point in water) You cannot walk across the dam, as its gated off. Think the lake is the deepest point at the bend before the dam (about 140 feet approx) Wish I knew how to get to the seneca pump storage pool. Lake level is super low this year, spots of the lake have no water (Seriously can see rocks and the shoreline is bare) especially in the northern end of the lake just south of I-86.

Before going to this dam, you should know that to build it, 1/3 of the Seneca reservation upstream had to be flooded, and countless traditional villages and artifacts were destroyed forever. All of this despite the fact that an alternate plan for the dam existed that would have had none of these negative effects. Enjoy your dam(n) vacation.

I drove to this dam via the Allegany State Park in NY. It was raining all the time but the drive via the alleghany forest was just exquisite. Definitely try to get to the seneca reservoir which is above the mountain.

Lots of hiking and beautiful scenery surround the dam. Mountain biking, boating, camping are just a few of the activities in Kinzua area.
