Beautiful place 5 stars, great bristlecone loop hike, start early as the weather can build later in the day. The reason they get two stars, CAUTION: Lehman cave website says they will resell any unused tickets at the time of the tour. We arrived 30 min prior to tour, the staff would not resell any unused tickets, giving the excuse that the above website posting had not been posted for long enough time to yet honor it. Apparently a park manager figured it was a good to post the policy on their website, but not stick to the policy for customers that drive hours to this remote location with the hope of getting in based on the posted policy. There is no qualification of the policy enactment date, it should have been honored. We drove 4hrs off our normal route just to get turned away. Do not go there hoping to tour the cave unless you have reserved tickets, regardless of what the website states.

This National Park was a nice surprise! And though it is kind of in the middle of nowhere (the closest town with services, lodging, and restaurants is Ely, which is about an hr drive away), it is worth checking out! I specifically came for their annual astronomy festival as the skies out here are some of the last remaining true dark ones in the country. They have 3 days full of astronomically themed activities and nightly sky viewing with telescopes at the Lehman Caves visitor center picnic area each night. The Lehman Caves (surcharge) were the highlight of my visit, but the scenic drive up to Wheeler Peak was also pretty spectacular (you go up 10,000+ft!) with full panoramas of the basin valley below. The facilities are very nice as well and there is a cafe at the Lehman Visitor Ctr. The NP even has its own very informative app!

What a little gem of a National Park! We had been wanting to visit for some time and finally found ourselves close by in Delta, UT, about an hour away. There is no entrance fee to this park. We took the scenic ride up to the lookout which was breathtaking. The road to the summit was still closed (snow). The real surprise is the cave system here. We did the full tour and were surprised at the immense size of the cave! It was absolutely beautiful. Afterwards, we grabbed a bite at the on site cafe. You can do this park in a day, or you can choose to stay longer at one of their campgrounds. However be advised there are no reservations... they are all walk up only! And it gets pretty hot here. Would recommend a late spring or early fall visit.

Located in Nevada the Great Basin is a site to see. It is a dry and mountainous region located between the Sierra Nevada and Wasatch Mountains. The Great Basin national park located north of Las Vegas protects 77,000 acres of land. The arid land recieves very little rain during the year. Most of the rain comes from the occasional winter snowstorms and summer rainfall. Winters are cool and summers are mild to hot. In high peak elevations temperature is usually at 50 degrees F with 90% humidity year round. Located within the great basin there over 800 species of trees and 339 various types of animals. It is a wonderful place to visit with the family and see the infamous Lehman caves and Lexington arch. -Erica H.!!!!!!:)

Greatly enjoyed our visit hiking. The mountain lakes and bristlecone trails were pleasurable and quiet in the morning, even on a 3-day weekend. We got to picnic next to a small stream. I only wish that the camping locations could be reserved in advance. Basically, unless you get there early or get lucky, finding a spot is near impossible. Also, just be aware that, outside of one gas station, one restaurant, and one small general store just outside the park, there are no amenities, so plan ahead.

Well worth the trip! This is a great way to get the national park experience in miniature, especially since there are no crowds like you get in the more flagship parks. The Upper Lehman Creek area is getting a major overhaul and will be closed for the 2016 season, but the hiking trails were open and were very nice. One piece of advice, if you want to take a cave tour you should plan to reserve it in advance, since those are very popular and fill up well before the date.

On Sat Jun 24th we hiked up to Johnson Lake. R/T was 7.8mi, 6 hours including about 20min for lunch at the lake. Absolutely a fabulous hike. The last mile is a steep grade following Snake Creek as it descends from the lake. The old mining camp buildings and other structures were very interesting. Wildlife in abundance throughout the hike. Recommend starting early in the morning, we took off at 6:30am. Very, very beautiful hike.

A great pace to visit. The night sky is awesome, although the moon kind of messed it up. Hiking to the bristlecone grove was awesome, there are incredibly old trees there! The camping was okay, although there was a dead rattlesnake in my camp. I called the rangers and asked them to remove it, but no one came the four days I was there. It stank and brought swarms of flies and gnats, which kind of ruined the experience.

Great Basin National Park is a hidden gem of the National Park Service! The caves, the camping, the trails and the hiking are accessible, fun, wel maintained and best of all, not crowded. The country is pristine and still holds the feeling of a time in the past. Worth a visit no matter the season, but Spring and Summer are some of the best times to go. I highly recommend this to all people who love the natural world.

Easily one of my favorite national parks. There is so much to do, from hiking, sight seeing, the caves, camping, etc. And just the scenery change from end to end of the park is unreal. I even enjoyed the long road from the small town into the park, someone has taken road garbage and crafted these amazing sculptures up and down the road. There is even a solar system that is fairly close to scale. Highly recommended.

The perfect camping experience. I stayed at Wheelers Peak Camp grounds. Each site has a picnic table, grill, and fire pit. Most have a good spot to set up your tent. Toilets and well water are available. Sitting at 10,000 feet, the weather literally changes minute to minute. Some VERY scenic and interesting hiking trails available where you can see bristlecones and even a glacier. Just beautiful.

Stunning sight, great camping facility. Star gazing event is a must. Bring your chairs. The hike to the oldest living tree is enjoyable for kids and adult. I went to all the way to the glacier, climbing and falling from the rock hills. Lots of wild turkey that is not native, beautiful lakes. Cave is magnificent, great tour by ranger.

One of the least traveled to national parks made it very enjoyable with few people around. The glacier was cool to see and have a snowball fight in the desert in late June. The bristlecone pines are incredibly interesting to see and the alpine likes are as beautiful as those found in the sierras and Rockies without the crowds

Hidden Gem in Nevada. I had no idea that there was so much green in Nevada! Great Basin has become one of my new favorite places to camp. It was not overly crowded when I was there and it had nice cool temperatures despite being in the middle of summer. The hikes are wonderful and overall I had a fantastic experience.

This place is great. The staff who work here are awesome. Be sure to see the night sky if the weather is clear. I prefer the 90 minute cave tour over the 60 minute one. Be sure to register for the tours as far in advance as you can as they can fill up quickly, especially in the summer. Hope you have a great time!

One of our favorite national parks. Off the beaten path, so not many visitors. This park has a little bit of everything; great cave, hiking, a glacier, bristle cone pines, beautiful fall colors at higher elevation. Get there early, as we got one of the few remaining spots in Wheeler Campground.

Wow what a peak experience. Beautiful, and though the glacier is under debris that it is even there is Awesome! The "Prometheus Stump" is my favorite for obvious reasons. The Town of Baker has cool?Funny Pun Art roadside, they should bring it back part of the western flavor nostalgia

If you want to do a cave tour book it in advance. Otherwise this park is truly magnificent! The views are spectacular, the staff was friendly and helpful and the hike was glorious. We were only able to do a day trip, but Great Basin National Park is worth all the time you can spend there.

Wonderful remote park. Mount Wheeler Nevada’s biggest peak is here. Breathtaking scenery and some of America’s darkest night skies for stargazers. Good shop and a restaurant The Lehman caves are a huge draw and tours are reasonably priced. Our guide was very informative and charming

Super fun backcountry adventures await. Just get out a ways from the parking lots and you feel like you have the entire park to yourself. One of the most understated parks in the nation. The cave tours are cheap and a fun way to spend a couple of hours seeing some incredible sights.

We stayed at Baker Campground overnight in our tent and really enjoyed it! Seriously, wanted to stay a few more days. We saw a bunch wildlife just from our site including a deer that walked through around sunrise. Also wanted to mention that we had pretty good Verizon service too!

Quite possibly the most majestic national park, ever. This is truly a slice of heaven. Quiet, intense, approachable and definitely worth the trip off the beaten path to get here. I saw the gorgeous night sky, alpine lakes, and the worlds oldest organisms all in a pristine space.

Great Basin National Park is simply breathtaking. It is home to one of the tallest peaks in Nevada, and a beautiful hike around a bristle cone Grove. Also, the skies are some of the darkest in the world, and allow anyone to see thousands of stars on any given night

This has the prettiest night sky and Lehman Caves is amazing! The tour guide told us about the history of the cave on top of the normal discussion of cave formations. Being next to the bristlecone pines feels inspiring because of how resilient they are.

Interesting out of the way park. They offer night astronomy shows because of the dark skies. Lehman cave tour is excellent. Double check to make sure your trailer/rv will fit in the campgrounds. They are cramped with tight turns and small spaces.

I really thought that going to eastern Nevada in mid August was an iffy proposition. Fear not, the trails to Baker lake and Johnson lake are green, moist, and stupendous. Aspens in all their glory plus several conifer species.

Great national park. Lots of hiking and an amazing cave to explore with a ranger. Has a basic campground open in winter. Very private sites and put toilets. $12 per night. No hookups for the RVs tho.

I have been here three times with my son. Great isolated park. You feel like you have the entire park to yourself regardless of the season. One of the best places in the entire U.S. to see the stars.

Another small np gem. No admission fee but have to pay for cave tour (book ahead). Easy hikes great views and cool trees. Glacier in Nevada! ? Caves are small compared to Carlsbad but nice still.

Great hiking and and not so busy as other parks. You can see glaciers and the oldest living trees on earth all for free. The park does not charge an entrance fee.

Compared to most National Parks its really out there to get to, but well worth it. The island in the sky has beautiful lakes, high alpine hikes and ancient trees.

The best, hidden park. Great night skies, gorgeous cave, beautiful scenery: all without the excessive multitudes of tourists that plague the more popular parks.

Great Basin NP is a treasure. Beautiful aspen groves, alpine lakes, and conifers that are awe inspiring. Lehman Caves are one of my favorite attractions here.
