This positive, 5 star review, is really in regards to Greg. I was not horribly impressed with communication and had a difficult time getting any calls back and no one really seemed to care about my business. The secretaries were great but those responsible for giving me an estimate and helping me with the process seemed to care less if I went with them or not and I was a little reluctant to continue with Scafsma. However, I am glad I gave them a chance as Greg, the gentleman who came from Scafsma to install my water heater was AMAZING! He went totally above and beyond for us and even did a few extra things my husband asked for. He looked over a plumbing question I had to help guide me in the right direction and took time from his day to make mine better. I will request to only have Greg if I need more work done from Scafsma. He really redeemed them in my eyes and I feel very lucky he was sent to install the new heater. The new heater is also extremely nice and a huge upgrade from what we had originally. Only just had it installed but seems great for the small amount of time I have had it. Greg had my water up and running before he even left and showed me how to adjust the heater and set the temps, etc... Great guy and everyone should request him! Thanks Greg!!!

AVOID THIS COMPANY! The entire experience was completely unprofessional. First, the service tech that came to my house was supposed to be there to complete a "tune-up" but instead just stated that my furnace was "junk." He was there for about an hour doing more chatting than working and kept on saying how terrible my system was. I knew that already, it was 27 years old. He was unable to complete my tune-up because I needed a new unit but of course I was still billed for it. They came back for an estimate. It took an hour for measurements and then he said he would have to calculate the results (about another hour). I did not have time for this so I asked for an emailed estimate. He was very reluctant to give the estimate that way but did agree to do so. When I finally received the estimate 3 days later after I called and requested it again, it was so minimal that I could not even understand what he would be installing. The estimate lacked the brand, if it were single or 2 stage, efficiency rating, and anything else other than the price. I tried to email him again requested the necessary information and there was no response. I went with a different company and could not have been any happier with the experience.

I bought a Groupon for a furnace tune-up. The tech who came out was friendly and professional. After the tune-up he said I had two issues that needed to be addressed: the furnace ignitor needed replacement and the heat exchanger had cracks in it and needed replacement. The heat exchanger was under warranty so they said the labor was $550 to replace this and $165 for the ignitor. (BTW he also said IF they could replace it... apparently it was installed so close to the wall it "may not be serviceable and may need complete furnace replacement"). Ironically Schaafsma was the original installer. I youtubed "furnace ignitor replacement", bought the part on Amazon for $20 and no joke it took me 5 minutes to replace myself. I called a local company in Rockford regarding the heat exchanger labor and had them give me a quote. It was considerably less, so I asked them to order a new one for me and swap it out. When they pulled it, THERE WERE NO CRACKS in my existing unit and did not need to be replaced.

Schaafsma has always demonstrated complete professionalism and quality of service. When I first called them for an air conditioning "check up" 3 years ago, I was certain they would tell me my 19 year old air conditioner and furnace (which were original with the house) would need to be replaced in order to make a big sale. I was pleasantly surprised when they showed complete honesty and integrity with the service call, and serviced our unit without any sales pitch. They continued that same level of service with both our air conditioner and furnace for the last 3 years. This year, when having my air conditioner tune up, I learned that they would not be able to service our original unit next summer because of the coolant used in the older machines. There was still no strong sales pitch. I was the one that contacted the company and initiated the sale and installation of the new units. The team was professional and friendly from beginning to end, and we are very happy with their service.

Another word to the wise regarding these people, no, actually two: If the tech who comes to your home to address a non-functioning AC unit does NOT actually check the unit for more than two minutes, you might have a problem. Second, if that company has a separate sales force to price out the shabby inspection and diagnoses and then proceed to "gimmick sell" you a new AC unit, you might have a problem. I was actually considering buying a new AC unit and re-working the duct work from my furnace fan for a price over $3K when it struck me, Schaafsma might be shafting me... Called another company over after the Schaafsma salesman left (visibly disheartened I might add), and after a replaced capacitor ($40) a pound of freon ($41.50) and an hour of labor time ($90) I have a fully functioning AC unit for $171.50 instead of something with a comma and 3 digits afterwards... Thanks Schaafsma.

Arrived home on Saturday afternoon around 4pm after being gone for a week to find out our furnace was not working and it was 35 degrees outside. Called the Schaafsma emergerncy number and was told someone would call within a half hour. Marvin called and came out by 6pm. Determined could not be fixed that evening, but someone would call us Monday morning and let us know when they would return. Monday a call came in by 8:30 and told us when they would be there to repair the furnace. Showed up just when they said they would. Did a great job of fixing. Furnace was installed a few years earlier by someone else. Schaafsma determined it was installed wrong making it very inefficient. They corrected on the spot and now its working great. It pays to deal with someone who know what they are doing.

I called Schaafsma Heating and Cooling for an annual inspection of our furnace. They were very quick to schedule the appointment and were prompt when they said they would arrive. Brandon was very professional and knowledgeable. He explained everything that he was checking, and why he was checking it. He cleaned everything, including a few items that I was not aware even existed on the furnace. I asked how everything looked and he showed me all of the test levels and said that everything is in great working order. I felt that they were very honest and did not try to sell anything that I did not need. They are also going to be servicing our AC unit this Spring. I would recommend Schaafsma to anyone needing assistance with their Heating/Cooling needs!

I had an excellent experience with Schaafsma. I called on a Sunday afternoon to report a tenant had no heat. The tech was there in less than half an hour and diagnosed the problem.Due to it being an older furnace, he did not have the part needed. He called the local parts supplier who came in on Sunday afternoon to give him the part.They are doing well to have people like the tech (Brandon-very friendly and knowlegable) and to have a supplier rapport to get parts even though they were closed. They will be the only people I call from now on.I paid just the service call and market price for the gas valve needed. Thank You very much.

I feel so lucky I hired Schaafsma. I had the entire system replaced (AC, furnace, water heater; quite an investement). It was a complicated job that took two full days to complete. The job was done with the highest quality, cleanliness, professionalism and consideration to my time and my house in general. I got 7 different quotes from different companies in the GR area to have this job done. I am glad I made the right choice. We just had to have our furnace replaced. I made several calls, and Schaafsma called me back on a Saturday morning. That was just the start of great service. Their installers were friendly courteous and hard working. Their products are top of the line. If we have a question, they have provided the answers. To top it off two weeks after the install they sent a product specialist back to go over the whole installation, make adjustments, and to rate the installers work. Any problems he found they will have to come back out and correct. Kudos to the team, Jeff, Tim, John, Brian, and Terry. Fantastic job.

The persons who installed our new furnace, ac, duct cleaning and duct sealing, were very professional, personable and guided us through the entire process. We had a tech come out for a non-functioning furnace before installing the new system and properly advised us that the unit was going to start costing more and more to repair. The tech showed us several areas of concern on our old 23 year furnace and ac unit. Very satisfied! Unfortunately, they ask for these reviews the day after the install. I hope I can say that this was a great investment in ten years.

The technician came out and diagnosed the problem. It was a spill switch that anyone with a screwdriver could replace. When he came back with the quote they offered to do it for $400. I contacted a local contractor (Haisma) and they got the part for me for $30. I called this place back and asked why they were charging me $400 for a $30 part and they said that’s how they stay in business. To me, that’s a bad way to stay in business. If you are thinking about scheduling these guys to fix your furnace for the winter, buyer beware.

I have used Schaafsma Heating & Cooling for over 17 years now in both my first and second home. They have always been quick to respond in a crisis, courteous, and professional. I have recommened them to my friends and recently had a friend buy both a new air conditioner and a new furnance from them. We love having the maintenance agreement that keeps all our systems in great running condition.

Poor scheduling process. I was very specific regarding time of service and even called again to confirm the day before. The morning of service no one arrived and when I called they had a complete opposite time scheduled. I was offered nothing in terms of expedited service to accommodate me for my inconvenience. You really get the "shaft" with Schaafsma!!

Appreciate that they made time on a busy Friday to come out and fix our boiler after a gas company tech broke the control valve leaving us with a gas leak and no heat. I also appreciate that unlike the last company that serviced our heating system, is that the emphasis was on maintaining our current system and not trying to sell us a new one.

I would really like to thank the group at Schaafsma. The got me a new AC unit installed and the price was fantastic. They were $900 less than some of the other guys. Not only that, they got me 12 months same as cash. At the same time the Furnace needed some repairs and they were able to get that done for 12 Months same as cash. Great Folks!!

Dale arrived after 5pm and left after 6pm. It was obvious he had had a long day and was tired. He did not realize my humidifier was not turned on. He did everything he was supposed to do was pleasant and professional it was just obvious he was a little spent and needed to be done for the day.
