While enjoying a long weekend on Cape Cod I stopped to take a left hand turn to pick up my husband at a local golf course. As I waited for oncoming traffic to clear with my left directional on, a large appliance moving truck rear ended my car just as the last oncoming car went by. The impact was so severe it spun my car around 180 degrees and into the lane travelling in the opposite direction. The truck driver came over to my car and said the accident was his fault and was very sorry, a statement he later denied making. At the time I immediately felt some neck stiffness, but denied treatment when the police came to the scene. Well, a few days later I experienced pain and numbness radiating down my arm and into my fingers. A visit to the Doctors office revealed (2) herniated disc’s that required risky neck surgery to bring relief, which thus far, have refused to do. As the medical bills started piling up it became evident I needed a good attorney. After an extensive internet search of local Personal Injury Attorney’s, I called Steve at Whitman Law. The next day he visited my husband and I right in our home. After a lengthy consultation, he informed us that we had a worthwhile case and we immediately had the feeling we found the right man for the job. Well, that became increasingly evident as the legal proceedings unfolded. Every step of the way it was clear that Steve was much more prepared than the opposing attorney(s). At mediation they finally offered to settle the case for $30k. Steve strongly suggested we refuse the offer and almost seemed upset they even wasted everyone’s time. Again, it was abundantly clear that Steve had done his homework and was head over heels more prepared than the opposition. Well, before long we had a court date. Attorney Steven Whitman has stood by me for the past five years. I hurt my shoulder working construction in 2005. From the beginning, my employer and its workers compensation insurance company fought my claim because my accident was not witnessed. Attorney Whitman filed a claim with the Department of Industrial Accidents and won my initial claim. The insurance company continued to fight and appeal my case. Attorney Whitman not only won my claim at each stage, but he was able to increase my weekly pay by demonstrating to the judge that my employer was purposely claiming a lesser pay than I was receiving while working for him. He then fought and won for me to receive life time payments. However, I am 38 years old and the idea of spending the rest of my life on workers compensation was unappealing to me. Attorney Whitman was able to negotiate a lump sum settlement for me of $308,677.00. At my request, he set up the settlement so that I will receive one half of the money now, and the remainder will be put into an annuity which will pay me monthly with interest for the next twelve years. Attorney Whitman was always there for me. He took or returned all my phone calls and spent as much time with me as I needed through this very difficult and uncertain time period in my life.
