The highlight of our stay was our housekeeper who also served as the Host at the restaurant. The room smelled horrible, although I would say the room was very nice and clean, the smell was almost unbearable. It was very very musty. The breakfast was great however the service for dinner was less than ideal. We waited almost 20 minutes to have our order taken (even though there were only a few tables) Every time a waitress was in ear shot they were saying sorry to someone for something (forgetting something, dropping something, not bringing bill etc.). Parts of the meal were forgotten. On the bright side the food was great.

Great hotel, nice location in the black hills of SD. Staff is friendly, restaurant is great but closes at 8:30 PM, Pizza and ice cream until 10 PM. While at first I thought 8:30 PM was early, it appears most of Hill City stores seem to close at 9 PM! So plan your meals early with family when you arrive! The rooms are nice, spacious, and clean. Very family orientated. The indoor and outdoor pools are nice and clean. Many other hotels around, but this hotel will give you more a western feel and atmosphere of being in the Black Hills than the other name brands available.

The decor and pictures in the room are really nice. We got the suite which has an accordion slatted folding doors separating the 2 rooms. (I understand there are suites with 2 rooms separated by a door but those were sold out). It was enough to create a sound barrier from serious snorers (along with serious ear plugs). The dressing mirror area and sink were outside the bathroom which is great for lots of people getting ready in the a.m. They had a nice little kitchenette and a desk area. The pullout couch was not comfortable but might be for kids.

A Private User

My husband and I were passing through on our way to Wyoming and decided to stop in this area to visit Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse. ETC. Our room was nice, clean, smelled fresh. We were impressed. Also, it was very pet friendly. We have 3 dogs, and they have a very nice pet area to walk your dogs and let them do their business. I would suggest staying here instead of Keystone if you are visiting Mt. Rushmore!

Every aspect of this establishment was exceptional. The staff in all areas were friendly, courteous, professional and fun! The restaurant food was awesome! The rooms were very comfortable and clean. They treated my pet very well and had a pet walk where he could do his business and provided "poop" bags! We would stay there again without hesitation. They know what customer service is all about!

This place surpassed my expectations! We had 4 adults and one child so we needed a large room. The room was very well laid out with a snack bar to eat at as well as the kitchenette. The extra sleeping area being able to close the doors and be more private was awesome. The breakfast was very good, a lot of variety and changed a bit daily. The price was fantastic! Would stay again in a heartbeat!!

We stayed here on a family vacation with our two young children (ages 4 and 7) and we loved it. A lot of breakfast options in the morning, the rooms were very clean and both of the pools were very nice and well maintained. It was also nice to have the coffee shop in the hotel in the mornings rather than having to go into town. I would highly recommend it - we will likely stay here again!

Great place to stay with a pet! They have a pet friendly patio for the restaurant - but you have to ask for it. They have a great "pet area." The breakfast and the breakfast staff are outstanding! The dinner staff and chef are OK if you want to eat like you did 20 years ago. The rooms are very nice and roomy and comfortable. I would highly recommend this place!

General Manager was a jerk and did not help us out when we were issued a room which smelled of vomit and cleaner. Terrible customer service provided when we asked for a room which was less pungent. Stay here if you must but hope you have no problems as customer relations skills of General Manager Joe Weber are non-existent. Try the Holiday Inn express down the road.

Friendly staff, good breakfast. Would have loved an omelet but otherwise was good. Nice clean pool and lobby. The people across the hallway had barking dogs the whole two days I was there. Staff said they were told they were service dogs so nothing could be done although the dog owners were gone the leaving the dogs to bark and fend for their selves the whole time.

When arriving at the Golden Spike Inn and Suites in Hill City, we were extremely pleased too bee upgraded to a suite (this was because we are good members). We were also given a complimentary snack bag. The desk clerk was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and clean. The breakfast buffet was good. I would highly recommend this Nest Western.

Only open during late spring to early fall, no big deal and willing to block off room for groups any day they are open except labor day weekend. How pathetic......memorial day is fine, july 4th is fine but labor day? really???? So if you need to block rooms do so at the quality inn, super 8 or even the holiday inn, they are willing to work with you there.

This hotel was a great place to stay insofar as location and value for your dollar. The staff is friendly, efficient and helpful. I would like the pool to be open until midnight and a few different choices on the breakfast buffet. But I would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly as a place to stay when visiting South Dakota.

While I was initially dubious about this hotel due to a negative review, our experience was very positive. Our room was very clean and well maintained. The desk staff and cleaning staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We stayed for 4 days and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We would definitely stay here again.

The room was clean and as advertised. Front desk personnel were courteous, friendly and helpful. It was very easy getting to surrounding attractions. The only issue was with the sofa/sofa bed...definitely needs replacement. But, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would choose to stay here again.

I would say this hotel is very nice. They have digital cable TV, a coffee machine in your room, comfy and good sized beds. Has good amount of room for four people. It also does have access to the pool area from the second floor. The pool area contains a pool, hot tub, fitness room, and an outside pool.

Room was decent, food at the restaurant was mediocre at best, but the free breakfast was nice and not too bad. I travel a lot and my pet peave is bad Internet/WiFi, and it was pretty bad here and unusable at times. Also kinda loud with kids running around. Would not stay here again.

Great Hotel Our room was spacious and very comfortable. It had 2 sinks, a huge shower room and a separate room with its own TV and a sofa bed there. Could easily Breakfast was in a restaurant across from our building. Quite roomy. Large indoor and outdoor pool. Family friendly.

Room location was great. We even parked at the front door. We had to go up to the 3rd floor to our suite. Luckily there was an elevator for my dad and my 2 year old. We will definitely be back. The customer service was so wonderful and it made for a great experience :)

Free breakfast, great rooms, 2 pools, hot tub, great location. They have several outdoor seating areas. Great views. Microwave and refrigerator in each room. Rooms are very clean. Would definitely reserve a room with them again. They also have a restaurant on site.

The room in which we stayed was very nice and very clean. Everyday when we returned from our adventures, the room was equally as clean as when we first arrived. The hotel is centrally located in the Black Hills, and it acts as a hub for visiting the Black Hills.

We highly recommend the Best Western Golden Spike Inn. We were warmly greeted as we walked through the front door, the room was very nice & clean, quiet & close to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Needles. We will stay here again when traveling in this area.

Deluxe continental breakfast was awesome. There were three tvs throughout the suite. Wifi available but slow. Central air, which made the living room really cold, but not so much the bedrooms. Bedrooms just had fans. Friendly staff

A very convenient place to stay when visiting Mt. Rushmore and/or Crazy Horse monuments. Clean, comfortable, with a friendly staff. That a secure WIFI is offered is a big plus. We enjoyed our short stay.

My family stopped here for an afternoon coffee and ice cream to rest and get internet service. The sales person made my coffee fresh and even provided the Wi-Fi password for us. Great little stop area.

The restaurant attached to this hotel was awful. After waiting for 45 minutes, all of our food was. Orders were screwed up multiple time and I have never had worse service in my entire life.
