Initially, I hired Nicholas as my immigration lawyer to renew my residency. I was a PhD student going through a very challenging divorce with financial strains and a high work pace. Nicholas helped me navigate the US immigration system with his outstanding expertise while being truly compassionate and empathetic towards me and my situation at the time. Working with Nicholas allowed me to tackle other pressing challenges while remaining grounded throughout this tough chapter of my life. Five years after the USCIS renewed my permanent residency, I hired Nicholas again for my naturalization. Once again, Nicholas saved the day by working with the USCIS to accommodate my travel requirements on short-notice so I could become a US citizen in time to attend work meetings and conferences overseas! I highly recommend Nicholas because he is a highly qualified lawyer but also an amazing and kind human being, who was willing to take a stand for my rights! Having Nicholas in my corner throughout this period of my life was critical to my own wellbeing and pivotal for my professional success.

If you are a same sex couple as we are, who wish to move to the US, I have 2 pieces of advice; start the process early (18 months) and contact Mr. John Dooney III at Nelson Smith LLP. My partner is originally from the USA and has been able to sponsor my green card. However, that’s brings with it a whole bunch of form filling, checks and balances, interviews, online applications, waiting, and more waiting, to reach the final goal. The red tape is unreal. John’s service and professionalism was exceptional. He answered all of our questions in a timely manner, often the same day. He helped us understand all the nuances of our specific case, and even made himself available to attend our final immigration interview in Portland, OR. He was just great to deal with. My first impression of John Dooney during our first consultation for my wife’s unique adjustment of status case that he was very welcoming, knowledgeable and understanding, he walked us through the whole process in a caring and respectful manner and his fees were fair, so I hired him on the spot. John’s behavior was exceptional, he was highly professional, honest, with great conduct and integrity, and his communications (email/call) were in a timely manner .John well prepared and organized all of our paperwork for USCIS from submission to interview day as well as preparing my wife and I for the interview. The whole process went so smooth. It really was fun and a pleasure working with John Dooney. I most definitely RECOMMEND him for all of your Immigration needs!!

Nicole Nelson was my Attorney for my Immigration case, Nicole has also been the Attorney for many members in my family. I was very fortunate to be able to retain Nicole and to return to the US after receiving a voluntary departure in 2009. I went to Nelson Smith for a consulation and was told they would be willing to take my case and then when I called back the following day to retain the attorney they said that there was no attorneys taking new clients after I just just been there 1 day before and they had told me yes. I was so unimpressed with their unprofessionalism that I called and asked for a refund of my fee and they said no. They shouldnt book consulations when they have absolutely no intention of actually accepting new clients. I ended up going to Parker Butte and Lane and they were so wonderful to me and were so honest and down to earth.They were able to get my husband his green card unlike these idiots
