This place was fantastic. We hit the museum(s) in every town we visit, and this was without doubt one of the most educational stops we have had. The building looks like a small town tourist trap from the road, but there is an amazing amount of 19th century stuff on display. I doubt that even the Smithsonian displays so many button shoes! The Mark Twain exhibit is very well done, also. Then there are the 3+ acres of grounds, the friendly docents. Do not miss this - if you are into California history, especially the Gold Rush, this is a must see. Be sure to bring your 4th grader.

Amazing museum with scads of antiques! The docents were VERY knowledgeable and eager to share the history of their county. From the road it looks like a small-town little museum, but when you go in it opens to several buildings and acres of history. Must see.

Excellent way to learn about Gold Rush era history and the beginning of Angels Camp. Huge exhibition that covers the biggest boom in California! Bring your walking shoes.

The entrance gives no clue as to the amount of information and items available. If you have young ones they will enjoy learning how to pan for gold.
