I recived my first DUI in Feb., I was ashamed, embarrassed, scared and had no idea what to do. It was a huge mistake that went against everything I stand for and I was more than grateful no one was hurt. After tons of research on lawyers I chose Mr. Desper to meet with. I had no idea what to expect. From the first moment, I felt comfortable with him. He listened to the incident, gave me a full overview of what was to expect and how to begin correcting my error in judgement. He spent so much time with easing my worries yet still being fully honest of the law and different scenarios of the outcome. He made sure he knew how important it was I follow the guidelines of recovery in order for a judge to see my committment to bettering myself. I left his office feeling relief and confident he would represent me in the best manner possible along with my dedication to following instruction of rehab, recovery, etc. Throughout this time, he communicated with me reguarly and was incredibly prompt at any and all updates I needed. I trust Gary 100%. I even had questions about a seperate family issue and he advised me on it immediately. When court came I was nervous but I felt a million times better knowing I had such a pillar of the community beside me. He truly worked hard to make sure the judge KNEW of my regret and shame about the DUI combined with the months of work I had done to come back from this. All in all, the judge was kind to me. This was my first (and last) DUI, so that it important to the judge. He listened to Mr. Desper, the counselor from a recovery center (Gary requested he come and it for sure was a wonderful testament of my work) and read every letter written about me from past employers, etc. I know this would not have been the outcome with a lawyer that did not know the law so well and really knew how to show the true character of his clients. Mr. Desper made a scary and painful process so seamless and smooth that I did not stress about court, I was able to use that time to positively change my behaviors and commit to self reflection and recovery. That was a priceless gift I am so thankful for. If you need a lawyer, he is so caring and focused on his clients that you really trust his intention, expertise and overall process of communication. Also, his right hand secretary, Dawn, is amazing. She truly is committed to each client with the same vigor and genuine care as Gary is. They make such an effective team and both have an incredible attention to detail. It really makes you know you are in the most capable hands!

I would caution anyone that is considering working with this attorney. I met with him yesterday, (early for my appointment) and I presented a child support issue. I also told some of my story surrounding my divorce and the actions of my former spouse. Mr. Desper was very prompt to check the Maryland Judiciary Case search and inform me I was NOT divorced. I was shocked. I tried to tell him that I was served with papers and a decree. Once again Mr. Desper told me I was not divorced and then told me that if I wanted him to look at the child support matter he would need a $3000.00 retainer. I was sadly disappointed at his approach. I felt minimized and dismissed. Today during my lunch break I found the case on my own on the case search system. Why would an attorney say something and then be found lacking? Be careful; and cross check this man on the details, he seems to be in a hurry. Real people, real issues, real problems. Mr. Desper was very quick to note I had 120 entries in the case search as if I should feel badly about being through previous marriages and other events. and even suggested that would "look bad"? A judge is supposed to be objective to the matter at hand.. I am familiar with the law and process and this attorney seems to be in a hurry. Nobody is perfect Mr. Desper not you or me. Accuracy and complete details in a "consultation" even if you have not been "retained" you are still an attorney. 4-23-15 After leaving a message and this post yesterday, I received a call from Mr. Desper who was upset and accused me of a "untrue" post. I confirmed my understanding of our interaction and Mr. Desper felt that he "accomadated" me with a same day appointment! I advised him that several attorneys offered to see me that day and that I choose him. After listening to him substantiate his position and the reason why he told me I was still married, (when in fact I am divorced) I was told that the actual divorce case that was accurate, (the same one I tried to tell him about several times) "showed up differently" as a "domestic matter" and that Montgomery County must post these types of cases differently than Carroll County? I will confirm and follow up.

Gary Desper is a rare, sparkling gem in the sometimes clouded world of litigation! I walked into his office a total stranger, but walked out feeling as though I was part of his family! Like someone finally understood the tourtuos road that I was forced to be on, and has my back! I have been dealing with a bitter, vindictive EX that abuses the legal system for some time now. And, unfortunately, we share a daughter. The EX constantly starts trouble with lies to law enforcement, as well as her lies to officers of the court; to the point where I just couldnt handle it alone anymore and needed help. I live in Baltimore Couty, but had to find a Carroll County attorney. Which, scared me to no end because of a horrible experience that I had with a totally different lawyer in the past. Then I found Gary Desper... Gary Desper was very different. He really does treat you like family. He was courteous, friendly, and very sympathetic to my situation! If Gary tells you that he will do something, he gets it done! And, he gets it done excatly how he explains it! Thank you Gary!

We found Gary to be extremely competent, personable and genuinely interested in our needs. He took the time to explain all of our options and answer questions about the issues surrounding estate planning. Although we had no prior experience with his firm, we selected him primarily because of the breadth of his practice and experience. We also wanted someone who was ethical and professional. Gary exceeded our expectations. His fee schedule is fair and competetive, so we feel we received a good value for our expense. There are many things you can figure out without much help, but "do it yourself" legal advice is not one of them. Gary Desper has become our choice in professional legal services.

Gary and Dawn are a wonderful team! I am so thankful for the amazing service and peace of mind I had in working with them. My son was falsely accused of a criminal act of which he did not commit and was arrested and charged with serious crimes. Gary was extremely knowledgeable, and always took the time to explain to my understanding, the complexities of the law in practical terms. A lawyer who actually listens to you. Will advise you of all your options as well as the negatives and positives of each. Will go with whatever you want, but will advise you of the best option. All lawyers are going to cost you, but at least with Mr. Desper, I felt that he actually listened to me, explained all my options as well as possible outcomes. He will not humor you, just to charge you billable hours. Also his secretary, Dawn I believe, is very helpful, courteous, and professional. Mr. Desper made an awful situation, much easier to navigate through and deal with.
