I am a commercial broker, and have been working with attorneys on both sides of multi-million dollar transactions for about 30 years. There are good attorneys and bad; deal makers and deal breakers, those that communicate well, and those that don’t. And I can tell the difference in about 60 seconds of conversation. When a family member got in trouble with a DWI, I took it upon myself to find them the best representation I could, and I wanted to be involved in the process from beginning to end. I knew from my experience that the best attorneys are those that understand and have experience on both sides of a given situation; in this case, both prosecution and defense. I was initially drawn to Brian Berkowitz because he had previously been head of the Clarkstown DWI bureau for several years. That told me that he probably knew everyone on the opposing side, including their strategies, objectives, and the rules governing their conduct. Obviously, other defense attorneys would know these things, but not to the extent of someone who actually lived and worked the prosecution side. My thought was that he would be intimately aware of what was reasonably possible, and what was not possible. In other words, no “pie-in-the-sky” promises that could not be delivered. For me, that was the first key. Second, I wanted a good communicator. Most lawyers do not communicate well with their clients. They may be great communicators in the courtroom, but try to get them on the phone or to answer an email quickly; Good Luck! Not so with Brian. He took the time to explain in plain language the charges, their ramifications, the possibilities of a lesser charge, and the entire process step by step. I was included in all conferences by phone, received copies of all correspondence, and received regular phone calls to update me on what was happening, and I wasn’t even the client! That is above and beyond the call of duty, and it is what separates a true professional who cares, from a run-of-the-mill lawyer who treats you like just another number. Third, most attorneys charge by the hour. They give you an estimate, and it is always higher when it’s all over, ALWAYS. This case was pretty straight forward and the flat fee was very reasonable. Obviously, if it had gone to trial, there would have been a daily rate, which is normal. Thankfully, it worked out exactly as Brian had thought it would, and there were no further legal costs. I can not tell you how important that is. Finally, getting a DWI is a serious matter that could happen to anyone who drinks occasionally and exercises poor judgment by getting behind the wheel, even just one time. But, it is not the end of the world. Brian can help you get through this, so that you can learn your lesson, and get on with your life. Trust me. I’ve dealt with literally hundreds of attorneys over the years. This is the man that you want representing you. This is your advocate.

Fist off a big THANK YOU to Brian Berkowitz for being amazing in every sense of the word! The entire process of becoming intertwined in the legal system can be very overwhelming and stressful whether or not your new to it. This was a bridge I came across as a young adult who never was in trouble or had any previous knowledge of the legal system and its intricacies. From my personal experience, I can truly say Brian Berkowitz made the entire process not only manageable, but with his experience and unmatched hospitality he truly sets a standard that it extremely difficult to surpass. At the beginning of this journey I was overcome by stress and the thought of all the possibilities that could alter my future and boy it was horrible just mulling over an endless series of "what ifs". Brian took the time out of his busy schedule to literally call me back moments after my initial call, which really surprised me for the better because it was a weekend. Upon meeting Brian, I was welcomed with open arms and he took all my fears and worries and was able to put things in perspective for me which was simply put, a breath of fresh air in this situation. Not only was he available at the drop of a dime, his kindness and compassion for not only my case, but my life was just amazing. You can tell just by one conversation with him that Brian Berkowitz is top notch, and unlike the other lawyers I have encountered, he actually cares! I literally could go on forever about how great he is but in all honesty, the proof is in the pudding! In the courtroom, he is a top tier professional and is treated as such. Seeing the other lawyers operate, I could really tell that Brian knew exactly what he was doing as soon as we stepped inside. There are no promises in the legal game but with Brian Berkowitz you can be assured that anything and everything will be done for the best outcome possible. While meeting for a free consultation with Brian he thoroughly listened to every detail of what happened that night and sorted out all potential outcomes. Very pleased with the outcome of my drink driving case thanks to Brian. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and feel like I was his most important client. He does not charge you an arm and a leg for his services and is always available when you need him. It was amazing to watch him within the court room shaking hands and kissing babies with the people that work there. Mr. Berkowitz assisted me with a moving violation. He was thoughtful, professional and incredibly knowledgeable of the Clarkstown court system. His process was streamlined and efficient-- I probably only invested 1 hour or so, spread out over a month, of my own time once I employed him.
