Noticed a birds nest at the top of my chimney, so called these guys. On the phone, I asked about a new flue cover which they said might run between $150 and $250. They seemed to have a reasonable service fee ($89) and said they would take that fee as a credit off any work I needed done....so I had them come out. The one positive note, the people who showed up were very nice. They removed the birds nest from the top in about 5 min (not in the flue). They then gave me the estimate for the new flue cover (and an extension pipe) of $425, a fuel charge of $10 and a new chase cover for between $806 and $1060 depending on material. That total was more like $1500. They even argued that the $89 could not be applied as a discount on the total since they did "work" already, but after much arguing, they relented! I told them I would think about it (NOT) and they left! I then called a local place in Wauconda and they were willing to give me a written estimate (email) after giving them my pre-fab fire box information over the phone. The Wauconda company estimate was nicely itemized and around $650 total and much less if I only wanted the flue cover. The Early Times estimate was 2.3x higher. The reviews sound great on google, but watch out if you want anything more than a cleaning!!!!!!

Ken and his partner recently came to my home to install a gas log system. This was not the first time out to work on our fireplace and chimney. On both occasions Ken was extremely patient, attentive and responsive to my questions, concerns and needs. He and his colleague were both pleasant and professional – all associates we have dealt with to date have been willing to do whatever possible to service the client and ensure our utmost satisfaction. I was told Ken was the best, and I clearly see why. He truly enjoys his work and is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We trust him implicitly to offer the best guidance and recommendations to address whatever issue requiring his attention.

I have been a customer of Early Times since I purchased 2007. Ken Kopka was the first technician I met who installed a chimney liner and did basic tuckpointing/maintenance to convert my fireplace from gas-to wood-burning with a gas starter. Since that initial visit, I have bi-annual cleaning and inspections done. Early Times makes it convenient and schedules appointments for me in advance so I never have to remember to call. I have been pleased with the level of service, professionalism, and quality of work performed by Ken and the other technicians I have met. I have most recently had services done in September of 2012, and plan to stick with them for my next visit in 2014.

I called Early Times a few months ago for a quote on relining my hot water heater and relining/repairing 2 chimneys. Their prices were super competitive and I called them back for the hot water heater about a month and 1/2 later. A work date was set with 1/3 of the amount due up front. I was told expect them between 9-12am and they arrived at 9am. A two man crew, Eric and Nick, came over and successfully relined the hot water heater. Upon completion, they cleaned up the remaining debris. They were knowledgeable, nice and did great work! I would high recommend Early Times to come out to your home. I will be calling them back in the Spring for some chimney work.

Ken made a service call to my house. Being a person who has never had a fireplace, I was not sure about how to operate it. Ken examined my chimney and cleared the fireplace. He spent time making sure that I had a clear understanding of how the fireplace worked. Even after I had paid him, Ken make sure that I understood the importance of properly operating the fireplace. He was very professional and it was great in these times to have someone like Ken with great customer service and skills to service my fireplace and chimney. I hope the other employees of Early Times Chimney Sweeps are as skillful and professional like Ken Kopka.

The work performed was above and beyond what you may normally expect., Ken Kopka was very courteous and knowledgable of the work to be completed, and took considerable time to make sure everything was installed properly, and thorougly tested to insure there were no gas leaks. Great work with both masonry and chimney liner replacement. Had the pleasure of having Matt (cert. 7182) and James replace the liner. They replaced the old one and kept me updated every step of the way. Their clean up was phenomenal as it seems they were not even here. They came in at a fair price and told me that if anyone else was willing to do the same work, but cheaper, they would price match.

We had the "one-day shower" update. It is beautiful. We were so pleased that we updated our other bath/shower as well. It made a huge diffference in the appearance of our bathroom. Covering up the tile updated the bathroom in a matter of hours. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to update their bath/shower without spending a lot of money or taking weeks for completion.
