During my tenure as a Security Contractor throughout the Middle East, I have known several guys that were injured on the job including myself. I, like the rest of my counterparts, knew very little about DBA and none of us were briefed on the “Right” way concerning DBA or how to deal with the Insurance Company or the Case Worker. That was during the initial phase of the Iraq War when the only people who dealt with the Defense Base Act were the widows of fallen contractors. I learned the hard way just like most of my former teammates. After I went through rehabilitation, I took some time off then went back to work in Afghanistan. A little more than six years later I was injured again during another convoy. This time around I had the knowledge to deal with the DBA. Before I was shipped home for treatment I was able to do some research on DBA Attorneys. After researching several lawyers I found Tim Nies. Not only was he well versed with the Defense Base Act, he’s a fellow Veteran and an Army Ranger (enlisted) from the 75th, 3rd Battalion. Tim took care of me from day one! My case was more complex than your average DBA case because my injury was almost identical to the one I sustained in Iraq so naturally the insurance company tried to fight me on it. Tim’s civilian counterparts, the non-veteran types, advised him not to go forward with my case because of the complexity but Tim is a soldier that just happens to have a law degree, not a lawyer that joined the Army for college money so naturally Tim took my case. A typical DBA case will last 6-12 months, my case lasted for 26 months and during that time the insurance company tried to stop my medical treatment and they successfully suspended my bi-weekly DBA checks in order to persuade me into accepting their ridiculous settlement amount. On my behalf, Tim rejected their settlement amount, quickly attained an appointment with a Dept of Labor Judge and successfully contested my unfair treatment concerning the suspension of my bi-weekly compensation payments. I was awarded back payments from the date the insurance company suspended my payments. In short, Tim saved me from foreclosure. Shortly thereafter, Tim entered into settlement negotiations on my behalf. Because of Tim and his previous experience with DBA, he displayed personal fortitude and a soldier’s constitution that clearly relayed the Warrior’s Motto, “Leave No Man Behind”. The insurance company quickly realized they were fighting a loosing battle and agreed to the settlement terms Tim put before them. At no time during my case did Tim act like a typical lawyer. He always displayed character and acted like a true “Ranger”. He always had my six covered. Not only is Tim a damn fine attorney, he’s a great soldier and a good friend.

We found Van Riper and Nies through online reviews. We called and scheduled a consultation free of charge! Both were VERY helpful about the Florida court process and knowledgeable in all aspects of defense. Coming from Texas we were not familiar with the Florida Judicial system. My husband and I were very discouraged and upset by the false charges against him. Christian and Tim’s knowledge of the Criminal Florida court system and investigative skills truly pulled us through a very difficult situation. They were extremely helpful and efficient in resolving questions that we had. I was surprised by their accessibility. Anytime we had a question, and trust me we had many, they responded quickly. I truly had begun to doubt the judicial system, but they stepped up explained the process and plainly described our options and outcomes. Our stress levels were exponentially reduced by their representation. They never embellished the truth or gave us “false promises”. We clearly knew what we were up against and that honesty and forth right knowledge helped us take the right path during our case. I am proud to say that Van Riper and Nies helped us receive the appropriate/ justifiable “Not Guilty” ruling. Thank you Christian and Tim for your dedication to details, and vested interest in our case! I would recommend you both to anyone!!

Christian Van Riper is the best attorney that I have ever used. He is currently helping me with a legal issue involving my elderly mother-in-law. He has been so knowledgeable and so patient in helping us with this complicated issue, and he always takes the time to explain everything so thoroughly and in terms that I can understand. In the past, Christian also helped a friend of mine who had been convicted of a DUI before she retained him, and she was facing serious jail time when she violated her probation by getting caught driving on her suspended license. Christian was able to get her out of jail almost immediately. Both Mr. Van Riper, and his partner Tim Nies, are truly very caring and intelligent attorneys. Thank you for all your hard work!!

Tim Nies is awesome! After I was injured in Afghanistan, I tried dealing with insurance coverage and medical assistance by myself. That worked for a while, then...not. I was fortunate enough to walk into Tim Nies office in Stuart and explain my situation. As a former Ranger, Tim knows where we are coming from, and how difficult it can be for contractors to deal with the complexities of the insurance world. I found that by listening to Tim, following his directions to the letter, and being eternally patient, the results are rewarding. Although I have a permanent disability, Tim was able to work out a settlement agreement that offers other options for the future. My wife and I cannot thank him enough. What a great guy.

I am so glad I retained Tim Nies to represent me in my DBA injury case. He did not let the insurance company get the upper hand. He knows how to fight the insurance company, does not let the insurance company bully his clients and never gives up. He knows injury law and knows DBA law and uses that knowledge and skill as an injury attorney to maximize settlements like mine. I am a USMC veteran and Tim is an Army Ranger Veteran. He exhibits the demeanor and work ethic of a veteran and a fighter. My case was more complex than the average injury case and that made Tim fight harder. Tim is a soldier and a lawyer and he displays the personal internal fortitude to take care of his clients and leaves no man behind.

I needed a lawyer and did my research and found Christian Van Riper. (He had impressive reviews) We discussed the problem as you normaly would with an attorney, and un like the other attorneys i spoke with he wasnt like heres the bottom line.... $$$ within a few minutes. And every thing he said he would do he did. To make a long story short it was worth it, he was the right man for the job. Case got dissmissed.
