I enjoyed my class at the Institute of Culinary Education, but was hoping for more. They had a great setup with many kitchens for both aspiring professionals and home cooks. I took a calls called "Everyone Cooks Everything." This was much better than most classes I have taken at other places because I actually cooked an entire meal start to finish. The one thing I didnt like is spending almost an hour talking about the menu and making changes to the ingredients/measurements. I wish they had made these changes in advance. This was suppossed to be a "healthy" class, but I found that there was way too much oil (and garlic for that matter) in everything. We ended up cutting this figure in a quarter and still thought it was too much. The chef and his assistants were super nice and helpful. They told us some interesting techniques as well. Make sure to go with a friend since you do the majority of the cooking with a partner. I feel that I am a seasoned enough cook that I do not get much out of these types of classes anymore. If you feel the same, I suggest you skip the one off classes and sign up for a multi-course techniques package.

The Seafood 101 Class was a complete waste of time and money. The class was too big and instead of having the students participate in all the fish dishes at some stage of cooking, the instructor assigned dishes by MONTH OF BIRTH. So all the Jan - May people got all the fish dishes and all that was left for me - a NOVEMBER- birth was a root salad. I went to the class to cook fish not to make a root salad. The class was marked by confusion; I started one dish, was told half way through to stop and then after all was put away to go back to the original dish. Not all the dishes - skate, fo example, - were totall finished. For the calamari, the assisting instructor had to finish the dish so the students can eat. Class ran well over required time and other classes were leaving while we were still preparing ours. A waste of money.

if you attend ICE they have good chefs. But they do not do a good job on helping find placements for internship. That is the worst part, and even sometimes spoken to badly. And the price is crazy, for everything you get in a short amount of time.. is unreal. Those classes should last longer. btw many chefs outside of the school have not heard of ICE.

Great selection of recreational classes with approachable chef instructors and helpful teaching assistants who will fetch you equipment and ingredients. The best part is tasting what you make at the end over wines or beers, chatting with new friends and then packing up the leftovers in the take-out containers provided,

I took a 5 days of cours for baking and one other class. Any baker in wanting to know the basic and more, must take the time to register and go there. It is intensive, professional and informative. Cheers and see you soon :)

My wife surprised me with a cooking class here during a stay in New York. We had a fun evening meeting other couples and cooking new dishes. Definitely a great choice for a date night.

Great selection of all sorts of cooking classes. Read the description carefully though as many are more demo than hands on.
