Horrible. Need health insurance? Hap is NOT by any means the way to go. I have contacted a representative and accounts receivable on more than four occasions to try and solve one problem. ONE PROBLEM! We paid for the insurance for the month of June a couple days late and it was the first time we were late on a payment. Nonetheless, we still paid it. For the entire month of June we were not able to use our insurance. Every time I called I was told "It should work now." Which was all a bunch of lies of course. We would call our pharmacy right after to check because my dad and mom NEEDED to get their medication and they told us that our insurance was terminated. After every single phone call this would happen. I am now having difficultly getting a clear answer as to how I would get my money refunded. Why am I paying for a service that I am not receiving? By far, the worst insurance company to come across.
The absolute worse insurance company my family has ever got into. you wont cover a simple test for a hyperparathyroid test which could help save my mom. her kidney function is decreasing your having her go to get blood test which right now is at like 10 different blood test her levels are high your making her run in circles for the same results for the pasted year nothing is getting done and shes dying because you wont cover a single test . Her primary doctor recommended her to get this test done but you REFUSE to approve of her to get the test. I hope your in this situation one time and your hopeless to help your love one because the insurance company wont cover a simple test. You would rather wait for her to be a kidney machine with before you will help her. sad to think you would rather see someone who you could help die and get your money you can shove that money up your ass.
Hap is the absolute worst insurance ever. The whole referral thing is out of control. Needed to see a podiatrist. But they tell me I have to go to my primary care physician first for a referral. Now we all know that my pcp is going to refer me to a podiatrist for heel spurs. So this means that 2 doctors are being paid for the same diagnosis. Which also means I have to pay 2 copays. If Americans want to know why Health care insurance cost so much, there is your reason. I spent 4 hours on the phone being shuffled around trying to get past the referral process just to fail. My employer is changing our insurance from Hap on the first of the year. They are unhappy with having to deal with them too. I was laughing out loud when I was on hold and they claimed J B Power rated them number one in customer satisfaction...
I had HAP with my prior employer (I left in 1999), and thought it was great. My new employer also offered HAP, so I chose that option. I retired in 2010, and still maintain HAP membership. I have never had a problem with them NOT paying a medical bill. The only thing that went up was my co-pay, which is both understandable, and not too much of a burden. The medical network with which my PCP (Primary Care Physician) is top-notch, and my physician has been honored as one of the top physicians in the state. I would certainly recommend HAP, and have done so on many an occasion.
The WORST!!!!!!!!! Cannot emphasize this enough. My husband and I are retired school teachers and we are so sorry we chose HAP for our insurance. We were supposed to be covered as of Oct. 1. Hours of phone calls, waiting for calls not returned. MY husband has his coverage but mine has been screwed up for almost a month. This is a perfect example of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing! I would welcome a call back on this review but as we know it will never happen. Do not choose HAP HMO as your retirement insurance .
I have had HAP since 1990. I have NEVER had an issue with them. Every medical claim has been paid with no issues. However, I have followed the rules to the tee. I review my plan every year when it is open enrollment. I review the coverage and requirements. An informed consumer is a happy consumer.
"to better suite you, we changed your plan saving you 36.84 monthly" than read more of the letter deductible increased 3500.00 per person, increased copay 40.00... ect." no give me the plan i had. they changed my plan without asking! the only person benefiting from this change is hap!
Definitely the worse customer service I have ever encountered. You are put on hold, transferred, disconnected repeatadly. No action taken on you inquiry at all, even after weeks. I will definitely not renew my medical insurance with them. You are treated like dirt.

Mistake after mistake by HAP, not paying bill sent to them, then when you need to talk to someone to get them to resolve their issues, you have to deal with the worst customer service people possible.
I have sent out lot of communications for simple service and no one accepts this crappy insurance which I am paying premium $$ for! I am opting out in next election time!
Hap is the worst company ever if you can please avoid them. Go to BCBS or someone else. Today I called HAP during business hours and they were closed. GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
Awful. Double billed me. Now my money is tied up for a month while i wait for a refund. They should have to pay a late fee, as well as a stupid fee.
When I started Medicare I got on HAP Sr. Plus and have been very happy with it in that 2+ years. Now if they would just start online payments.
Horrible company, they like to deny claims for being "medically unnecessary" as if they know more than the physician.
Paying WAY to much a month for my coverage.. Do your research, shop around! Let the reviews prove how awesome hap is.
