As a dentist, it is very interesting to read what people who have Delta Dental of Massachusetts have to say. I would now like to give a dentist’s perspective. As bad as Delta Dental of Massachusetts is now, it is only getting worse. Much worse. I am a dentist, and I just received a letter on 12/14/16 stating that if I continue to be a provider, there is going be an approximately 25% fee reduction across the board. This is Delta Dental directly interfering with your patient care. This is dentistry turning into medicine. Neither you the patients nor we the dentists should stand for this. We have made a conscious effort to be an outstanding dental practice that does not cut corners with time, workmanship, or care. Just a few of the ways we do this include: a dentist personally spending over an hour with each new patient; reserving a full hour for each adult continuing care cleaning; investing in state-of-the-art dental technology; using the best dental materials and laboratories; encouraging and paying our team to attend continuing education classes. A long time ago, we decided that we were not going to allow dental insurances to dictate our dentistry, and through the years we have opted out of several plans that would have put such financial stress on us that we could not do the kind of dentistry that our patients deserve. We do not want to be a dental factory, churning out subpar fillings and rushing through 30 minute cleanings. If we refuse to sign Delta Dental’s paperwork, they will inform all our Delta Dental of Massachusetts patients that we are no longer a provider, and they will recommend that they seek dental care elsewhere with a Delta Dental provider. We will no longer be able to submit insurance for our patients and receive payment; instead, patients who choose to remain with us will pay for services and then seek reimbursement from Delta themselves. The letter stated we have 14 days to decide what to do. It seems very convenient that the letter was sent around Christmas time when everyone is busy and distracted. This is Delta Dental of Massachusetts taking advantage of you the patient. They want to pay less money for your dental care, and they do not care if it means you the patient receive compromised care. For years, we have accepted a write-off of approximately 10% from Delta Dental of Massachusetts. We did this because we knew a large portion of our patients have Delta, and financially it was feasible to take the write-off. As the write-off climbs to over 30%, it is no longer the case. Something has to give, and we do not want it to be your dental care. Does this mean that if we remain in the plan we would do “bad” dentistry? Of course not! But that 60 minute cleaning will need to be cut down to 40 minutes. There will be less time with the actual dentist and more time with assistants. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It is what has happened with medicine, and I cannot think of one person who is genuinely happy with their medical care or medical insurance. Just as we are mad, you should be too. Contact your employer and tell them to dump Delta Dental of Massachusetts. Delta Dental is only looking out for themselves and puts no real value on the quality of your dental care.
Everyone who is rating delta dental 1 or 2 stars is an idiot. All dental procedures have guidelines, if your idiot dentist was unaware of the guidelines and something wasn’t paid out- it’s their fault. If you scheduled a cleaning a week before the 6 mo to the day mark, it’s your fault. Benefits are what they are if something is covered great, if it’s not- it’s not. It’s your responsibility to call your insurance to see if something is covered or not and know your benefits before you agree to getting a major service done. The reps I’ve interacted with have been respectful and thorough, if you’re rude to a rep and don’t get the response you want to hear that does not justify a negative review.
Like everyone on this website, I agreed about their poor customer services, “mean and not helpful”, high denied claims rate, bad website infrastructure, password reset every time trying to log on. Thought we pay for the Premium plan for better coverage and thought the $500 carry over was added benefit. “WRONG”, the carryover would only work if my current claim doesn’t exceed $700. Knowing that each individual is eligible for a $1500 annual coverage, $1500-$700=$800 is still remain. So if my current year claim exceed $700, I will not be eligible for the carryover. The carryover is not an added benefit if it cannot be used when you most need it.
In general I have not had any bad experiences with my insurance companies, except for Delta Dental. Due to clerical issue at the orthodontist office, Delta Dental MA decided they had an excuse to deny payment for standard orthodontic benefit. I called and wrote to them explaining the reason for the unfortunate clerical error, which they are partly to blame, only to get a letter explaining that it was too late for them to go back and process the claim. According to them we were 6 months too late. They stuck me with their part of the bill, which I had to pay out of my own pocket. Not happy with my experience. Would not recommend.
The company and their program was great until they took over their own billing and customer service. Now their bills are wrong, they foul everything up and you cannot even reach them most times to clear up their issues. When they created their own website they said I could not have my own email it had to be a common email like g-mail or hot mail but not my own private email. NUTS then they change their billing date and claim I did it. I hope they get back to a great company they used to be.
Downtown Dental Care Portland
Worst Customer Service , we have reported them to the Ins Commissoner , their supervisors do not communicate with one another, you have to explain yourself 20 times every time you call its someone new and they can never seem to get you to the one rep you need to speak with , hello phone service 101, they failed that training, avoid this insurance if at all possible!
This is the worst insurance from Massachusetts. I do not recommend it. Do not return what you have previously paid only create obstacles for not paying. IMPRESENTABLES
While the product is good, the website is awful. Every time that I try to use it, it is down. My requests are not implemented. Requires follow-up phone calls to get things done that were supposedly implemented over the web. Hard site to use and either my user name or password have to be reset every time I try to use it.

Horrible ... horrible.. did I say horrible. They repeatedly denied my claim for unreasonable things. I paid for the service in full and it took weeks to get them to agree to pay a simple reimbursement claim. I am still ticked writing about it. FIND another insurance company... please.
Terrible CS and Dental Insurance, they add problems and problems to never reimburse you!
They denied a valid claim without any grounds for denying it.
They are definitely worth checking out!
deny deny deny... crap insurance.
Useless, simply useless
